Dehradun:
Under the guidance of the Chief Minister and the direction of District Magistrate Savin Bansal, the efforts being undertaken for the welfare of differently-abled citizens in Dehradun district are now yielding significant results. The District Disability and Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC) operating at Gandhi Shatabdi District Hospital on Curzon Road has emerged as a major support system for differently-abled persons.

The center is providing multiple facilities under one roof, including disability certificates, UDID cards, rehabilitation support, and assistance in availing government welfare schemes. These initiatives are not only reducing administrative difficulties for beneficiaries but are also ensuring equal rights, dignity, and social inclusion for them.

Disability Certificates Being Issued Every Wednesday

The Health Department is organizing a Disability Board every Wednesday at Gandhi Shatabdi District Hospital, where disability certificates for various categories are being issued. This has made it easier for beneficiaries to avail themselves of government schemes related to pensions, scholarships, travel concessions, assistive devices, and other welfare benefits.

Additionally, differently-abled citizens can obtain necessary information and guidance from home through the DDRC helpline number 8791009301.

More Than 600 UDID Cards Issued

The DDRC was established at Gandhi Shatabdi Hospital in September 2025 on the initiative of District Magistrate Savin Bansal. Four dedicated rooms were allocated within the hospital premises for its operation.

According to the District Social Welfare Department, more than 600 Unique Disability ID (UDID) cards have been issued since the center became operational. The Disability Board of the Health Department has also issued around 600 new disability certificates, while nearly 250 certificates have been renewed.

Health Department data further reveals that since 2009, a total of 30,739 disability certificates have been issued across Dehradun district, while 1,064 certificates have been renewed so far.

Major Relief for Beneficiaries

Manoj Bahuguna, a differently-abled resident of Dehradun, shared that he had been facing difficulties for a long time in obtaining his UDID card. After learning about the DDRC, he visited the center and submitted his application. Following document verification, his UDID card was successfully issued. He expressed gratitude to the district administration and the state government for the facility.

Services Also Available in Vikasnagar

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Manoj Sharma stated that regular disability board services are also being provided at the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) in Vikasnagar, apart from Gandhi Shatabdi District Hospital.

He informed that disability boards are organized every Tuesday at SDH Vikasnagar, where certificates are issued and related certification facilities are provided to beneficiaries.

Free Special Therapy Facilities for Children

The District Disability and Rehabilitation Centre is also offering special facilities for differently-abled children to support their overall development. The center provides free speech therapy, physiotherapy, and learning therapy services.

Under expert supervision, these therapies are helping improve the children’s physical, mental, and educational development. The district administration aims to empower differently-abled children through better treatment, training, and rehabilitation support, enabling them to become more self-reliant and confident.
