‘Jan Darshan’ Emerges as a Trusted Platform for Public Grievance Redressal, Complaints Cross 300 Mark
DM Savin Bansal shows sensitivity in cases related to elderly citizens, widows, education, ration cards and financial distress
Administration assures quick action and relief to people facing social, economic and civic issues

A large number of citizens reached the public grievance redressal programme “Jan Milan/Jan Darshan” held on Monday at the Rishiparna Auditorium under the chairmanship of District Magistrate Savin Bansal. More than 300 complaints related to land disputes, encroachments, demarcation, compensation, electricity, drinking water, ration cards, financial assistance and civic issues were presented before the District Magistrate.
The DM heard all grievances seriously and directed concerned officials to ensure timely, effective and quality disposal of every case. Several emotional and sensitive matters came to light during the programme, where the administration assured immediate intervention and relief.
Elderly Father Thrown Out by Son and Daughter-in-Law, DM Orders Action Under Maintenance Act
A resident of Shivpuri Premnagar, Suresh Kumar, informed the District Magistrate that his son and daughter-in-law had forced him out of the house and were continuously threatening him. Taking serious note of the matter, the DM directed officials to register a case under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act and initiate immediate action.
Another senior citizen, Kamal Nayan Bhutani, complained about illegal occupation of his property by his brothers. The matter was referred for investigation to the District Government Counsel (Civil).
Woman Faces Loan Recovery Notice After Subsidy Delay
Shivani, a resident of Sabhawala, informed the administration that she had taken a loan to purchase machinery under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme, but the subsidy had not been released. Due to financial losses and business difficulties, she was unable to repay the loan and had received an attachment notice from the tehsil administration.
The District Magistrate directed officials to investigate the case and provide appropriate relief to the woman.
Divorced Woman Struggles for Ration Card Due to Lack of Documents
A unique ration card-related grievance also surfaced during Jan Darshan. Mamta Rani, a divorced woman, stated that her ration card application was being rejected because she did not possess land ownership documents or an electricity bill.
The DM directed the District Supply Officer to submit a detailed report within two days.
Probe Ordered Against School Over Alleged Harassment and Denial of Transfer Certificates
Five parents from the Dalanwala area accused SamSai Public School of harassing children, demanding old fees in lump sum and refusing to issue transfer certificates (TCs).
Taking the matter seriously, the District Magistrate ordered the Chief Education Officer to conduct an immediate inquiry and take necessary action.
Administration Extends Support to Widows and Needy Families
Widow Samun Pal informed the administration that after the death of her husband she was unable to pay the remaining installments of her e-rickshaw loan. The DM instructed officials to submit a proposal for financial assistance through the Rifle Club.
Similarly, Shamshad from Deepak Colony sought help for medical treatment, widow Asha Devi requested assistance for paralysis treatment, while Kamla Gandhi from MDDA Colony and Purnima Devi from Bullawala appealed for financial aid and fee waiver for their daughters’ education.
The District Magistrate advised them to submit applications under the Nanda-Sunanda and Rifle Club assistance schemes.
Farmers Troubled by Illegal Encroachment on Irrigation Canal
Farmers from Fatehpur Grant complained that illegal construction and encroachment on an irrigation canal had disrupted water supply for agricultural fields.
The DM directed the Executive Engineer of the Irrigation Department to take action and submit a report by May 23.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation Dehradun was instructed to take immediate action against an illegal dairy operating for the last four years in Himjyoti Enclave, which residents alleged was causing unhygienic conditions in the area.
Rural and Civic Issues Also Raised During Jan Darshan
Residents of Gram Panchayat Listrabad Grant complained about the absence of vehicles for door-to-door garbage collection. The DM instructed the Chief Development Officer to arrange a waste collection vehicle through CSR funds.
In another case, residents of Gadog Sakrol village in Kalsi tehsil highlighted discrepancies in land records that were preventing issuance of caste and domicile certificates. The SDM Kalsi was asked to submit a report by May 25.
The administration also ordered an inquiry into a damaged pedestrian bridge in Kandoi Bharam village of Chakrata block.
Action Sought in MDDA and Public Transport-Related Complaints
Sanjay Kumar Barmola of Kargi Grant alleged that Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority had failed to comply with orders issued by the Garhwal Commissioner and MDDA Chairman. The DM directed MDDA officials to submit an Action Taken Report (ATR).
Citizens also demanded restoration of public transport and revival of the previously operated city bus service between Dilaram Bazaar and Nalapani Chowk. The District Magistrate directed the Regional Transport Officer to submit an immediate report on the matter.
Senior district officials, including Additional District Magistrate KK Mishra, Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner Praveen Kumar, SDMs Smrita Parmar, Apoorva Singh, Kumkum Joshi and Aparna Dhaudiyal, along with officers from various departments, were present during the programme.
