Orange Alert in Uttarakhand: Heavy Rain Forecast in Four Districts Over Next 24 Hours

IMD Dehradun has issued an Orange Alert for Dehradun, Pauri Garhwal, Tehri Garhwal and Pithoragarh districts. Heavy rainfall, landslides and waterlogging are likely over the next 24 hours.

Dehradun, May 30: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Dehradun Centre, has issued an Orange Alert for heavy rainfall in parts of Uttarakhand over the next 24 hours. According to the weather department, Dehradun, Pauri Garhwal, Pithoragarh, and Tehri Garhwal districts are likely to experience heavy rainfall at isolated places, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.

The IMD has advised residents, tourists, and pilgrims, particularly those travelling in hilly regions, to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions. Continuous rainfall may increase the risk of landslides, road blockages, flash floods, and waterlogging in vulnerable areas.

District administrations and disaster management authorities have been asked to stay on alert and ensure preparedness to deal with any weather-related emergencies. Pilgrims undertaking the Char Dham Yatra and travellers heading to mountainous regions have been urged to check weather updates and road conditions before commencing their journey.

Meteorologists have warned that some locations may witness intense spells of rain within a short duration, which could lead to a sudden rise in the water levels of rivers, streams, and seasonal channels. People have been advised to avoid venturing near riverbanks, landslide-prone zones, and low-lying areas during the alert period.

The administration has appealed to the public to follow official weather advisories, avoid unnecessary travel in affected regions, and cooperate with local authorities to ensure safety during the adverse weather conditions.
