Major Railway Gift for Uttarakhand, Courtesy of CM Pushkar Singh Dhami’s Efforts.
Dehradun/Tanakpur: In a significant relief for train passengers in Uttarakhand, the Ministry of Railways, Government of India, has approved the increase in the frequency of the Dehradun–Tanakpur Express (15019/15020) from weekly to tri-weekly (three days a week). The Railway Board has issued official orders to implement this decision with immediate effect.
Result of CM Dhami’s Persistent Efforts
This development comes as a direct result of the efforts of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. On October 8, 2025, during his meeting with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi, the Chief Minister had raised the issue of increasing the train’s frequency. Acting swiftly on his request, the Ministry of Railways approved the proposal to operate the Dehradun–Tanakpur Express three times a week.
New Schedule
-
15019 Dehradun–Tanakpur Express: will now run on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday (earlier only on Sunday).
-
15020 Tanakpur–Dehradun Express: will now operate on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday (earlier only on Saturday).
Greater Convenience for Passengers
The increase in service frequency has been made considering the growing demand from passengers and the need to improve connectivity between the Kumaon and Garhwal regions. This decision will not only enhance travel convenience but also boost trade, tourism, and regional development across the state.
Expressing gratitude to the Railway Minister and the Railway Board, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said:
“The expansion of the Dehradun–Tanakpur train service will make travel between Kumaon and Garhwal much smoother. This decision will benefit passengers and accelerate economic, tourism, and regional growth in Uttarakhand.”
Strengthening Rail Network Across the State
The Chief Minister added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttarakhand is witnessing historic progress in rail connectivity. Several railway projects are being executed rapidly, paving the way for rail access to the hill and border regions in the near future.
According to an order issued by Vivek Kumar Sinha, Joint Director (Coaching), Ministry of Railways, the decision is to be implemented promptly, and wide publicity should be ensured so that passengers are well informed.
