Preparations Intensified for Successful Celebration of International Day of Yoga; CDO Directs Departments to Ensure Coordination

Preparations have been intensified across Dehradun district for the successful, grand, and participatory celebration of the 12th International Day of Yoga. In this regard, an important review meeting was held at the Vikas Bhawan Auditorium under the chairmanship of Chief Development Officer (CDO) Abhinav Shah, with the participation of district-level officers from various departments.
The meeting commenced with a welcome address by District Ayurvedic and Unani Officer, Dehradun, Dr. Mithilesh Kumar, who welcomed the Chief Development Officer and other officials present. On the occasion, he presented a detailed overview of the awareness campaigns, training programs, and activities conducted so far in the district, along with the schedule of upcoming events planned in connection with the International Day of Yoga.
Dr. Kumar informed that various awareness and outreach programs are being organized across the district to promote the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) prescribed by the Ministry of AYUSH and to ensure maximum public participation. Schools, colleges, government offices, gram panchayats, social organizations, and voluntary groups are actively being engaged to spread awareness about yoga and encourage people to adopt it as a regular part of their daily lives.
Addressing the meeting, Chief Development Officer Abhinav Shah directed all concerned departments to work in close coordination to ensure the successful organization of International Day of Yoga events. He emphasized that yoga is not merely a physical activity but a holistic way of life that promotes physical health, mental well-being, and emotional balance.
He further stated that the International Day of Yoga serves as a global movement encouraging healthy and sustainable lifestyles. Therefore, departments should make every effort to maximize public participation and ensure widespread publicity of the scheduled events.
Highlighting the significance of yoga, Shah said that yoga is a priceless heritage of India that has gained worldwide recognition. Regular yoga practice not only improves physical fitness but also helps in stress management, mental peace, and overall personality development. He urged officials to take yoga awareness initiatives to every section of society.
As part of the meeting, a one-day yoga workshop on the theme of “Yoga Break” was also conducted under the Common Yoga Protocol. Yoga instructor Ravindra Thapliyal provided practical training on various yoga postures (asanas), pranayama techniques, and meditation practices to the participating officers and employees.
He also explained the scientific benefits of yoga, the importance of regular practice, the role of yoga in workplace wellness, and effective ways to adopt a healthy and stress-free lifestyle.
The Chief Development Officer appealed to all departments to actively promote yoga among the public and ensure maximum participation in the programs scheduled for June 21, the International Day of Yoga.
Officials and employees from various departments participated in the meeting and assured full cooperation and coordination for the successful organization of the International Day of Yoga celebrations. The district administration is also planning a series of awareness and community engagement activities in the coming days with the aim of transforming Yoga Day into a mass movement.
