Governor and Chief Minister Inaugurate “Bhagirath Udyan” at Raj Bhavan, Unveil Grand Statue of King Bhagiratha

Dehradun  – Governor Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh (Retd) and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami jointly inaugurated the newly developed “Bhagirath Udyan” on Monday at the Raj Bhavan campus. On this occasion, they also unveiled a grand statue of the legendary King Bhagiratha, revered for his relentless efforts that brought the holy Ganga to earth.

The 10-foot-tall statue, installed on an 8-foot granite platform, has been crafted with fiber and resin by renowned Haridwar-based artist Shivam Chaurasia. The garden, designed as a serene and spiritual space, is enriched with diverse species of plants, offering visitors a tranquil atmosphere amidst lush greenery.

Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Gurmeet Singh said that the statue is not just a monument but a living source of inspiration. “The constellations, nature, temples, and mountains around us remind us that when the goal is public welfare, both divinity and nature pave the way,” he remarked. The Governor also commended the officials and staff whose efforts led to the creation of the garden.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami highlighted the cultural and moral significance of the statue, stating, “This statue will always inspire every citizen and guest visiting Raj Bhavan with the ideals of duty, public welfare, and Indian culture. It is a reminder that the path to achieving great goals lies in ‘Bhagirath Prayatna’—relentless effort and dedication.”

Prior to the inauguration, the Governor and Chief Minister offered prayers at the Rajprajneshwar Mahadev Temple within the Raj Bhavan premises, seeking happiness, prosperity, and well-being for the nation and the people of Uttarakhand.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Secretary to the Governor Ravinath Raman, Legal Advisor Kaushal Kumar Kishore, Additional Secretary Reena Joshi, Additional Secretary to the Chief Minister Banshidhar Tiwari, Additional Secretary PWD Vineet Kumar, Vice Chancellor of Dev Sanskriti University Dr. Chinmay Pandya, Vice Chancellor of Uttarakhand Sanskrit University Prof. Dinesh Chandra Shastri, Finance Controller Dr. Tripti Srivastava, Assistant Engineer PWD Vijay Dhasmana, Garden Officer Deepak Purohit, and other senior officials.
