Dehradun Municipal Corporation has launched an automatic plastic bottle crusher machine to strengthen the Plastic-Free Uttarakhand campaign and curb single-use plastic pollution.

Strengthening Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s commitment towards a Plastic-Free Uttarakhand, the Dehradun Municipal Corporation has launched an innovative initiative by introducing an Automatic Plastic Bottle Crusher Machine. On Thursday, Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal and Municipal Commissioner Namami Bansal formally inaugurated the city’s first automated plastic bottle crusher machine outside the Municipal Corporation premises.
The Dehradun Municipal Corporation plans to install these automated bottle crusher machines at key and high-footfall locations across the city. These include major tourist destinations, railway stations, bus terminals, educational institutions, parks, government buildings, and prominent city intersections. The primary objective of this initiative is to curb the growing problem of plastic pollution and promote the recycling of plastic waste into useful products such as tables, chairs, flower pots, decorative items, and household utilities.
The operation of the automated bottle crusher machine has been entrusted to Mansa Facility and Service Private Limited. The company will collect and recycle plastic bottles, and the recycled raw material will be directly purchased by the Dehradun Municipal Corporation. Using this recycled material, the Municipal Corporation will manufacture utility items that will be installed and used at public places, parks, and city squares.
Municipal Commissioner Namami Bansal stated that the machine will play a significant role in recycling single-use plastic waste and converting it into useful products. She informed that locations for installation have already been identified and, based on public feedback and operational success, the machines will be installed at all designated locations in a phased manner. The project is being implemented under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal said that this initiative will provide a major boost to the Plastic-Free Uttarakhand campaign. With the support of the automatic plastic bottle crusher machines, the Municipal Corporation aims to eliminate single-use plastic from the city and encourage citizens to adopt responsible waste disposal practices.
This initiative, aligned with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s vision to curb single-use plastic and promote environmental sustainability, is expected to become a milestone in making Dehradun cleaner, greener, and more environmentally friendly.
