High-Level Review Meeting on Birth and Death Registration Held Under Chief Secretary’s Chairmanship.
Dehradun: A high-level review meeting of the State-Level Inter-Departmental Coordination Committee on birth and death registration was convened at the Secretariat on Friday. The meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, focused on strengthening the registration system, addressing existing challenges, and implementing corrective measures to ensure efficiency and transparency.
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary stressed the importance of timely and accurate registration of births and deaths across the state. He issued firm directives to ensure that every registration is completed within the prescribed time frame. Emphasizing modernization, he instructed concerned departments to digitize all pending and historical records to streamline access and prevent discrepancies in the future.
To enhance public awareness and accessibility, the Chief Secretary directed that clearly visible notice boards carrying key information regarding the registration process be installed outside all registrar offices. These boards will serve as a ready reference for citizens seeking guidance.
Highlighting the role of district administrations, he mandated that every district must convene a meeting of the District Level Coordination Committee (DLCC), chaired by the District Magistrate or District Registrar, at least once a year. These periodic reviews will ensure uniform implementation of policies and swift resolution of local issues.
The Chief Secretary further underscored the need for large-scale public outreach campaigns to inform citizens about the correct procedures and to discourage them from falling prey to fraudulent online portals or websites offering unauthorized registration services. He called for strict legal action against such activities to safeguard the integrity of the system.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Ravinath Raman, Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar, Director of Census Directorate Eva Ashish Srivastava, Additional Secretary Ranjana Rajguru, and other senior officials, who discussed actionable steps to improve service delivery and coordination between departments.
