CM Dhami Directs Proposal for Cashless Treatment of Accident Victims; Stresses AI-Based Traffic Management and Strict Road Safety Measures

DEHRADUN: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, while chairing a meeting of the Road Safety Council at the Secretariat on Tuesday, instructed the Transport and Health Departments to prepare a proposal enabling cashless treatment for all road accident victims in hospitals across the state—even beyond those empanelled under the Ayushman Yojana. He emphasized that every accident victim must receive timely and seamless medical assistance.

The Chief Minister called for stronger, more coordinated efforts to reduce road accidents, directing officials to conduct intensive checking in all border areas and maintain special vigilance along mountainous routes. He reiterated that vehicle overloading must be strictly prohibited and that continuous awareness campaigns should be organized to promote adherence to traffic norms.
Dhami stressed the need to upgrade traffic systems using modern technology, directing authorities to accelerate the adoption of AI-based and automated traffic management solutions across districts. He said road widening at identified black spots should be completed on priority and first responder training programs should be held regularly to equip citizens with lifesaving skills and accident prevention techniques.
The Chief Minister further instructed that cleanliness and safety drives be conducted routinely at bus stops, and swift action be taken against habitual traffic violators. Minimizing the response time for transporting accident victims to hospitals must remain a top priority, he added. He also asked officials to ensure rapid road repair in heavy rain–affected zones and high-traffic areas, urging districts to replicate successful road safety practices as best-practice models.
Dhami said that installation and maintenance of crash barriers in hilly regions must be strengthened. He also directed the Transport and Tourism Departments to jointly plan vehicle parking facilities equipped with essential amenities. In view of the winter pilgrimage season and the forthcoming Char Dham and Nanda Raj Jaat Yatras, he instructed departments to expedite preparations to enhance traffic management and ensure continuous monitoring at major bus stands.
The Chief Minister also called upon the Transport, Police, and PWD departments to hold monthly review meetings on road safety. He added that the Forest Department, along with district administrations, should undertake roadside plantation drives, especially in hilly districts.
During the meeting, CM Dhami honoured individuals and organizations who have made commendable contributions to road safety initiatives.
Cabinet Minister Satpal Maharaj, Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, Secretaries Shailesh Bagoli, Brijesh Kumar Sant, V. Shanmugam, ADG Dr. V. Murugesan, IG Rajiv Swaroop, Transport Commissioner Reena Joshi, Additional Secretaries Vineet Kumar and Rohit Meena, along with officials from various departments, attended the meeting.
