Dehradun: On action being taken to prevent and control forest fires and the state’s preparations regarding the upcoming monsoon season Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami chaired a review meeting at the Secretarait. Taking action against negligent forest officials in dealing with forest fires, on the order of CM, the government suspended 10 senior forest officials and took action against 7 more in this regard.

Addressing the meeting, CM asserted that the BJP leaders, workers and other public representatives must participate in the firefighting activities and contribute towards removal of pine needles, which are the major cause of fires in the forests. He further said that all secretaries should be given the responsibility of different districts to ensure total control of forest fires.

It may be recalled that fires continued at different locations across the State. However, factors like the light rains witnessed in some mountainous regions have brought down the number of large active forest fires to an extent in some areas even as authorities struggled to bring the fires under control in other areas. Considering the seriousness of the situation, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has postponed his engagements outside the State and is set to review the status of forest fires in the State.

In the meeting the CM also reviewed the preparations for Char Dham Yatra and the upcoming Monsoon season.
