DEHRADUN: After DM’s Stern Action, Bank Waives ₹15.50 Lakh Loan of Widow, Returns Property Papers

Dehradun: In a remarkable display of administrative resolve, the Dehradun district administration has compelled DCB Bank to waive a ₹15.50 lakh loan and return the mortgaged property documents to Shivani Gupta, a widow from Chandrabani, within just three days of action.

Shivani Gupta, a resident of Amar Bharti, Chandrabani, had been struggling for over a year, repeatedly approaching DCB Bank and the insurance company after her husband, Rohit Gupta, passed away on May 15, 2024. Despite the fact that the loan was insured, neither the bank nor the insurer provided any relief, leaving her financially crippled with no source of income to repay the loan installments.

Taking cognizance of the complaint raised during the Janta Darshan, District Magistrate Savin Bansal directed DCB Bank to immediately resolve the matter. When the bank failed to act, the administration, led by SDM Kumkum, took strict action on June 18 by confiscating the bank’s movable property and sealing its branch located at Cross Mall, Rajpur Road.

This swift and decisive intervention prompted the bank to act quickly. Within three days, bank officials reached Shivani Gupta’s residence and handed over the original property documents along with a No Dues Certificate, officially waiving the outstanding loan of ₹15.50 lakh.

This rare instance of direct administrative enforcement has been widely praised and has significantly boosted public confidence in the district administration’s commitment to citizen welfare. It also serves as a strong warning to financial institutions that any negligence towards public interest or violation of consumer rights will not be tolerated.

Key Highlights:

Shivani Gupta had been running from pillar to post for one year despite the loan being insured.

No assistance was provided by either the bank or the insurance company.

Acting on the DM’s orders, the administration seized the bank’s assets and sealed the branch.

Within 3 days, the bank delivered property papers and a no dues certificate to Shivani Gupta’s home.

The ₹15.50 lakh loan was officially nullified.

The district administration has made it clear that similar action will be taken in future against any institution that fails to uphold the rights of ordinary citizens.
