Electoral Roll Accuracy is Top Priority; Resolve Field-Level Issues Through On-Site Visits: Additional Chief Electoral Officer

Special focus on Sahaspur, Doiwala, Vikasnagar and Mussoorie Assembly Constituencies

Political parties urged to actively support Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign

Dehradun, August 3, 2026: Additional Chief Electoral Officer (ACEO), Uttarakhand, Vijay Kumar Jogdande, directed election officials to ensure the highest standards of accuracy and transparency in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, emphasizing that unresolved field-level issues should be addressed through on-site inspections and close coordination with Booth Level Officers (BLOs).

The directions were issued during a comprehensive review meeting held at the Collectorate Auditorium, Dehradun, jointly chaired by ACEO Vijay Kumar Jogdande and District Magistrate-cum-District Election Officer Dr. Ashish Chauhan. Election officials and representatives of recognized political parties attended the meeting.

Reviewing the Assembly-wise progress of the campaign, the ACEO expressed satisfaction with the work completed so far but instructed officials to intensify efforts in the Sahaspur, Doiwala, Vikasnagar, and Mussoorie Assembly constituencies, where special focus is required.

He directed officials to prioritize the verification of voters whose mapping is still pending and ensure the timely disposal of every pending case. Wherever obstacles arise, officers were instructed to personally visit the field, coordinate with BLOs, and resolve issues on the spot.

Jogdande also instructed that voter verification and mapping must be carried out strictly based on the 11 approved documents prescribed by the Election Commission of India (ECI). Officials were asked to cross-check entries with the 2003 SIR records, Family Registers, and other available documents to ensure that the electoral rolls remain accurate, transparent, and error-free.

The meeting also reviewed Assembly-wise notice distribution, polling stations with over 100 pending notices, and the progress of BLO-level verification. Officials were directed to maintain quality, transparency, and strict adherence to ECI guidelines throughout the campaign.

District Magistrate and District Election Officer Dr. Ashish Chauhan instructed all teams to work in close coordination and complete the Special Intensive Revision through detailed micro-level planning within the stipulated timeline. He stressed that no eligible voter should remain unverified.

Political Parties Asked to Strengthen Public Outreach

During a subsequent meeting with representatives of recognized political parties, ministers, and officials, the ACEO appealed to political parties to actively participate in the campaign and help spread awareness among voters at the booth level.

He stated that the objective of the campaign is to include every eligible citizen in the electoral roll while removing ineligible entries to ensure a clean and error-free voter list.

Dr. Ashish Chauhan informed that BLOs are conducting door-to-door notice distribution across all 10 Assembly constituencies of the district. Notices are being issued to voters whose records contain discrepancies, whose mapping remains incomplete, or whose Forms 6, 7, and 8 have been received.

Political parties were urged to motivate voters through their Booth Level Agents (BLA-1 and BLA-2) to attend hearings with the required documents on scheduled dates.

Current Status of the Special Intensive Revision

Officials informed that:

• The campaign covers approximately 2.045 million people across 10 Assembly constituencies.
• The draft electoral roll contains 1,190,805 registered voters.
• 395,772 voters have discrepancies in their records.
• 152,170 voters are yet to be mapped.
• Notices are to be issued to 547,942 voters, of which 391,810 notices have already been delivered.

Hearings Commence from August 3

Hearings began on August 3, 2026, at designated polling stations across all Assembly constituencies. During these hearings, voters can submit claims and objections by producing the required documents.

Officials clarified that, besides Aadhaar, voters may also present other valid documents prescribed by the Election Commission, including government identity cards, birth certificates, educational certificates, domicile certificates, caste certificates, family registers, and land or housing-related records.

The District Magistrate also shared the contact details of all Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) with political party representatives and instructed officials to promptly resolve all SIR-related queries. EROs were directed to hold regular coordination meetings with political parties in their respective Assembly constituencies.

The meeting was attended by Chief Development Officer Abhinav Shah, Additional District Magistrate (Administration) Smrita Parmar, all EROs, Assistant District Election Officer Narendra Deoli, other election officials, and representatives of BJP, Congress, CPI(M), Aam Aadmi Party, and BSP.
