In an effort to ensure prompt, transparent, and citizen-centric grievance redressal, Dehradun District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan chaired the Samadhan Diwas (Public Grievance Redressal Day) at the Collectorate Auditorium on Monday. A total of 109 grievances were received, with the majority being resolved on the spot. The remaining cases were forwarded to the concerned departments with directions for time-bound action.

The grievances covered a wide range of issues, including land disputes, illegal encroachments, demarcation, family disputes, loan waiver requests, compensation claims, financial assistance, public transport, drinking water supply, and civic infrastructure.

Elderly Widow Seeks Protection

One of the most sensitive cases involved 75-year-old widow Maya Devi, who informed the District Magistrate that after losing both her sons—one during the COVID-19 pandemic and the other last year—she has been living alone in her ancestral home.

She alleged that her granddaughter, who had fallen into bad company and substance abuse, was living in the ancestral property with a friend in a live-in relationship and was mentally harassing her while attempting to evict her from the house.

Taking the matter seriously, Dr. Chauhan directed the Women Cell, Dehradun, to ensure her safety and initiate immediate legal and administrative action.

Family Property Disputes

Widow Bhagwan Dei complained that despite an equal division of family property, her younger son and daughter-in-law were attempting to illegally occupy the elder son’s share and had allegedly issued threats. The DM directed the SDM Sadar and Circle Officer, Raipur, to investigate and take appropriate legal action.

Another complainant, Surendra Kumar of Kanwali Road, alleged harassment and assault by his son and daughter-in-law and sought to disinherit his elder son from his movable and immovable property. The matter was referred to the District Legal Services Authority for action as per law.

DM Seeks Immediate Action on Public Transport

The absence of Uttarakhand Transport Corporation, Smart City, or electric bus services on the Dehradun–Doiwala–Bhaniyawala–Jolly–Thano route was raised by citizens. Taking serious note, the District Magistrate summoned the Additional Chief Executive Officer (ACEO) and directed immediate efforts to improve public transport connectivity.

Rehabilitation Grant Delay

Six farming families from Luhan village in Kalsi block complained that rehabilitation grants for land acquired under the Lakhwar Dam Project had not yet been released. The DM directed the concerned Executive Engineer to submit an immediate report and expedite the payment process.

Compensation Delay

Sunil Kumar of Premnagar stated that his house had been demolished nearly six years ago during the Doiwala–Premnagar road widening project, but compensation from the Public Works Department and the National Highways Authority had still not been paid. The District Magistrate instructed officials to ensure early disbursement of eligible compensation.

Other Civic Issues

The DM also ordered action on complaints related to:

  • Land measurement disputes.
  • Alleged irregularities in the Aanchal Dairy premises.
  • Excessive drinking water bills.
  • Illegal encroachments on public land and drainage channels.
  • Drinking water supply disruptions in several residential colonies.
  • School fee waiver requests and livelihood assistance for economically distressed widows.

Time-Bound Disposal of Complaints

Concluding the Samadhan Diwas, Dr. Ashish Chauhan directed all departments to ensure that every grievance is resolved with sensitivity, transparency, and within the prescribed timeline. He also instructed officials to expedite the disposal of complaints registered on the CM Portal.

Senior district officials, including Additional District Magistrates, SDMs, Project Director, District Development Officer, District Programme Officer, and other departmental officers, were present during the public hearing.
