Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has approved ₹1096 crore for education, urban development, Panchayats, tourism projects and Kumbh Mela-2027 preparations across the state.
Major Boost for Education, Urban Development, Panchayats, Tourism and Kumbh Mela-2027 Preparations
Dehradun: Pushkar Singh Dhami has approved financial sanctions worth nearly ₹1,096 crore for several key development projects related to education, tourism, urban and rural local bodies, and preparations for Kumbh Mela-2027. The approvals are expected to accelerate infrastructure development, strengthen local governance institutions, and improve public services across the state.
Under the State Plan, the Chief Minister has sanctioned ₹9.43 crore for the construction of a bridge over the Guruni Nala at Pataliya in Kotabagh area of Kaladhungi Assembly constituency in Nainital district. Additionally, ₹9.89 crore has been approved for the construction of a car parking facility at Mohan Market in Mukteshwar under Ramgarh block. Approval has also been granted for the release of the first installment amounting to ₹3.95 crore for the project. These initiatives are expected to improve connectivity, traffic management, and tourism infrastructure in the region.
Under the Sixth State Finance Commission, the Chief Minister approved the release of ₹328.27 crore to all urban local bodies for the first quarterly installment (April to June) of the financial year 2026-27. Further, ₹3 crore has been sanctioned for three non-elected urban bodies as the first half-yearly installment (April to September). In total, ₹331.27 crore will be released to urban local bodies to strengthen civic infrastructure, sanitation, water supply, street lighting, and other public services.
To strengthen rural governance and development, the Chief Minister also approved substantial financial assistance for the three-tier Panchayati Raj institutions. Under the financial year 2026-27 allocations, district panchayats will receive ₹82.20 crore as the first quarterly installment (April to June), while block panchayats and gram panchayats will receive ₹75.46 crore and ₹194.61 crore respectively as the first half-yearly installment (April to September). Altogether, ₹352.27 crore has been approved for Panchayati Raj institutions, which is expected to accelerate rural development and grassroots welfare initiatives.
In the education sector, the Chief Minister approved the release of ₹80 crore as the first installment against the provisioned amount of ₹160 crore for salary payments of employees working in aided non-government primary schools during the financial year 2026-27. Similarly, under the secondary education sector, approval has been granted for the release of ₹300 crore, representing the first 50 percent installment of the allocated budget for the period from April to September 2026. The decision is expected to ensure smooth salary disbursement and uninterrupted academic operations in educational institutions.
The Chief Minister has also approved key permanent infrastructure works under the Urban Development Department for preparations related to Kumbh Mela-2027 in Haridwar. An amount of ₹6.44 crore has been sanctioned for the renewal and strengthening of internal roads at Shankaracharya Chowk, Devpura Chowk, Chandracharya Chowk, Aryanagar Chowk, and the road leading from the barrier area to Gugal Temple through bituminous concrete (BC) work.
Additionally, ₹6.83 crore has been approved for junction improvement and beautification works at Ranipur Mod, Shankar Ashram, Shiv Murti Chowk, and Jhanda Chowk. To further enhance cleanliness and urban management during Kumbh Mela-2027, ₹5.95 crore has been sanctioned for the supply and commissioning of diesel-operated self-propelled vacuum-based EV road sweeping machines along with comprehensive maintenance support.
The state government believes that these projects will significantly improve infrastructure, sanitation, traffic management, and public convenience ahead of Kumbh Mela-2027, while also contributing to the long-term urban development of Haridwar and other regions of Uttarakhand.
