Dehradun, 20 April: The management of Shri Guru Ram Rai Public School, EC Road, Dehradun, has suspended Principal Shaila Joshi with immediate effect. The suspension comes in the wake of allegations of non-compliance with directives issued by senior education officials and reported misconduct with parents.
According to the school management, Principal Joshi failed to discharge her duties responsibly, which has been deemed a serious administrative lapse. To uphold discipline and ensure the smooth functioning of the school, an inquiry has been ordered. During the suspension period, she will receive a subsistence allowance and is required to cooperate fully with the investigation, which will be conducted at SGRR Public School, Kalidas Road, Dehradun. Furthermore, she has been directed to hand over all school-related responsibilities, documents, equipment, and keys to senior staff member Kumaresha Sharma.
The issue came to light after a parent alleged that their child, who had completed class 8 at the same school, was denied admission into class 9 without valid reason. The parent, wishing to continue their child’s education at the same location due to proximity, lodged a formal complaint with the Chief Education Officer (CEO), VK Dhodiyal. Other parents also submitted complaints accusing the Principal of misbehavior and undue pressure to seek admission elsewhere.
Upon receiving these complaints, the CEO instructed Principal Joshi to admit the student and attend a hearing. However, she reportedly ignored these instructions, failed to appear for the hearing, and did not respond satisfactorily to follow-up communication attempts.
In response, CEO Dhodiyal advised the school management to replace the Principal, ensure no undue pressure is exerted on parents, and facilitate a smooth admission process for students progressing to the next academic level. Acting on these recommendations, the school suspended the Principal and initiated a formal investigation.
