DM Takes Strict Action Over Waterlogging in Seema Dwar, Orders Cleaning and Dewatering Within 24 Hours

Amid persistent rainfall and waterlogging in several parts of Dehradun city, the district administration has stepped up efforts to address the issue on both an immediate and long-term basis. District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan conducted a surprise inspection of the ITBP Road and Seema Dwar areas on Tuesday to assess the waterlogging situation.
During the inspection, the DM interacted with local residents and listened to their concerns. He directed officials to ensure that waterlogging does not cause inconvenience to the public and instructed the concerned departments to take effective measures for an immediate as well as permanent solution. Local MLA Savita Kapoor was also present during the inspection.
Cleaning and Dewatering to Be Completed Within 24 Hours
Taking serious note of the waterlogging in Seema Dwar, the District Magistrate directed the Municipal Corporation to remove accumulated garbage, debris and other obstructions from roadside drains within 24 hours.
He also ordered the deployment of dewatering pumps to ensure immediate removal of stagnant water from affected areas. The Public Works Department (PWD) was directed to take necessary measures to keep vehicular movement smooth and remove obstacles caused by waterlogging.
The DM emphasized that residents should not face unnecessary inconvenience due to waterlogging during the monsoon and directed officials to remain responsive and ensure prompt action on the ground.
Patwari to Remain Stationed in Seema Dwar for Continuous Monitoring
The District Magistrate directed that, until the immediate waterlogging issue is effectively resolved, the concerned Patwari should remain stationed in the Seema Dwar area and continuously monitor the situation.
The Patwari will also monitor dewatering operations and ensure that minor issues reported by residents at the local level are addressed promptly.
The DM approved the required budget on the spot for immediate measures to address the waterlogging problem. He directed officials to ensure that there is no delay in relief and drainage-related works.
Permanent Drainage Solution, DPR to Be Prepared
Dr. Ashish Chauhan said that temporary measures alone would not be sufficient to address the recurring waterlogging problem in Seema Dwar. A permanent drainage solution is required to prevent inconvenience to residents and commuters during the monsoon.
The DM directed the Superintending Engineer of the PWD to conduct a detailed survey of the existing drainage system in the area and prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a permanent drainage solution.
He stressed that the proposed action plan should not remain confined to paperwork and that its implementation must be expedited after approval.
The District Magistrate also assured local residents that the district administration is regularly monitoring the waterlogging situation and that a permanent solution will be taken up on priority. He made it clear that negligence at any level in addressing public grievances would not be tolerated.
Strict Action Against Illegal Parking and Encroachment on New Cantt Road
Earlier, the District Magistrate also conducted a surprise inspection of New Cantt Road to assess the traffic situation. During the inspection near the Centrio Mall area, he found several four-wheelers and two-wheelers illegally parked on both sides of the road and expressed strong displeasure.
On the DM’s instructions, police officials immediately took action against illegally parked vehicles and issued dozens of challans at the spot.
The DM also directed officials to immediately remove illegally operated roadside stalls, hawkers and temporary shops that were obstructing the road. He further instructed the concerned department to install clearly visible No-Parking signboards along the road to prevent traffic disruption.
Detailed Survey Ordered for Widening of New Cantt Road
Considering the increasing traffic pressure in the New Cantt area, the District Magistrate directed the Superintending Engineer of the PWD to conduct an immediate detailed survey for widening New Cantt Road.
He instructed officials to initiate necessary action for shifting police check posts and other structures that may be obstructing the proposed road-widening work, wherever required.
The DM directed all concerned departments to work in close coordination and prepare a concrete action plan for providing a permanent solution to the growing traffic problem in the New Cantt area.
He made it clear that encroachment, illegal parking and obstruction to traffic movement on roads would not be tolerated under any circumstances. The concerned departments were directed to conduct coordinated enforcement drives and ensure smooth traffic movement.
During the inspection, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Sadar Apoorva Singh, Superintending Engineer PWD O.P. Singh, Tehsildar Surendra Dev, along with officials from the police, Municipal Corporation, PWD and other concerned departments, were present.
