Dehradun, 09 July: Under the vision of the Chief Minister for a smooth and safe traffic system, the district administration is moving ahead with swift actions. District Magistrate Savin Bansal chaired a review meeting on urban redevelopment and parking plans at Rishiparna Auditorium, Collectorate, today and issued several important directives.
Strict crackdown on unauthorized parking:
The DM instructed the police to double the number of cranes deployed in the city for towing vehicles parked in no parking zones. Such vehicles will be seized and transported to Rangers College or Kabul House grounds.
Similarly, police and RTO have been directed to take stringent enforcement against vehicles unauthorisedly picking or dropping passengers at ISBT, towing them all the way to the Rangers ground.
Regulated parking & redevelopment:
MDDA was directed to ensure that parking spaces in commercial complexes are used strictly for vehicle parking only. Any commercial activities within designated parking areas will invite strict action.
All activities related to Indira Market complex rehabilitation, new wholesale market construction, and shop allotments will be reviewed weekly at the administrative level.
DPRs of 10 busiest junctions prepared:
The district administration has completed DPRs of the city’s 10 busiest junctions, which will be sent to the government for financial approval within this month.
Funds approved for raised zebra crossings:
PWD has been instructed to commence immediate work on constructing raised zebra crossings at key intersections, with funds approved on the spot for this purpose.
Land acquisition at ISBT Kargi Mod:
A proposal for land acquisition at ISBT Kargi Mod has been prepared and will soon be forwarded to the state government.
Coordinated plan for systematic urban traffic:
MDDA, Nagar Nigam, PWD, UPCL, NH, Police, and Transport Departments were instructed to work in close coordination to prepare a practical, future-oriented Mobility Redevelopment Plan for Dehradun.
Comprehensive infrastructure for pedestrians & public transport:
Plans include expanding the road network from city to towns, developing bicycle and pedestrian tracks, zebra crossings, table-top pedestrian crossings, continuous footpaths, safe pedestrian traffic signals, systematic parking, and relocating bus, auto, taxi stands 50-100 meters away from junctions to ensure smooth traffic flow.
The District Magistrate will personally review these plans every Saturday.
Departments have also been directed to regularly update progress on a shared Google Sheet for continuous monitoring.
Present in the meeting were Additional District Magistrate (Finance & Revenue) K.K. Mishra, City Magistrate Pratyush Singh, Joint Secretary MDDA Gaurav Chatwal, Superintendent Engineer PWD Ompal Singh, Regional Transport Officer Deepak Saini, CO Traffic from Police Department and other senior officials.
