Garhwal Commissioner Reviews Maldevta Disaster Area, Temporary Road Opened for Traffic

Commissioner Garhwal Reviews Disaster-Hit Area, Traffic Restored on Temporary Road

Dehradun. Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey on Friday inspected the disaster-affected Maldevta–Kesarwala region, which had been severely impacted by flash floods in the river a few days ago. The floods had washed away a large portion of the road, snapping Maldevta’s direct connectivity with Raipur.

Thanks to round-the-clock reconstruction work, an alternative temporary road was completed by Friday morning, following which vehicular movement was restored in the area. During his inspection, the Commissioner directed officials to make the temporary road more user-friendly and to ensure that a permanent road is constructed promptly after the monsoon. He also emphasized the need to implement flood-protection measures to safeguard the road in the future.

Local MLA Umesh Sharma ‘Kau’, who was present during the visit, highlighted that under the directions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, all departments worked tirelessly, completing the temporary road construction within just two days. He said the restoration has brought much-needed relief not only to the residents of Maldevta and Raipur’s remote villages but also to people from the Sakalana region of Tehri district.

Expressing gratitude to the Chief Minister for his swift intervention, the MLA appealed to the public to avoid night-time travel on this stretch during the ongoing rainy season. He assured that once the permanent road is built, normal traffic flow will be fully restored.
