Haridwar Kumbh 2027: CM Dhami Sets October 2026 Deadline for Key Projects
Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed all departments to ensure that every permanent infrastructure project linked to the grand Kumbh Mela 2027 in Haridwar is completed by October 2026. The CM emphasized that the upcoming Kumbh must be โdivine and grand,โ reflecting both cultural heritage and modern facilities.

Chairing a high-level review meeting at the Secretariat on Wednesday, the Chief Minister instructed officials to classify projects based on priority and execute them through close inter-departmental coordination. He made it clear that the smooth, safe, and well-organized conduct of the Kumbh is a top priority for the state government.
Key Directives from the Chief Minister
๐๐ป Master Plan & Land Use: All works must align with the expanded master plan. Clear demarcation of sectors, routes, parking areas, ghats, and camp sites is to be ensured. Necessary land acquisition and arrangements for temporary land use should be completed well in advance.
๐๐ป Ghats & Crowd Management: New ghats will be constructed, Kangra Ghat will be expanded, and existing ghats will be repaired to disperse crowds effectively. Encroachments on government land and roads will be strictly removed to ensure free movement.
๐๐ป Infrastructure Projects:
UIIDB projects in the Haridwar Ganga Corridor to be completed on priority.
The under-construction BahadarabadโShyampur bypass must be expedited for maximum utility during the mela.
A detailed master plan for special tent cities in Shyampur, Gandikhata, and Chandighat is to be prepared.
Strengthening of Mansa Devi and Chandi Devi pedestrian paths to be completed on time.
๐๐ป Traffic & Parking: A comprehensive traffic diversion and parking strategy will be put in place. Shuttle services may be introduced for remote parking areas, and all internal routes in the mela zone will be repaired for the benefit of both devotees and locals.
๐๐ป Waste Management & Cleanliness: A zero-waste concept will be adopted. Adequate dustbins, recycling units, mobile toilets, pink toilets, and changing rooms for women will be provided. Continuous 24-hour cleaning at ghats and along the Ganga banks will be ensured. Proper arrangements for aarti and seating at Har Ki Pauri will also be made.
๐๐ป Safety & Security: Lifeguards, safety ropes, and motorboats will be deployed at every ghat. Crowd management, traffic control, and basic facilities at parking zones will be strengthened. Personnel will receive special training to ensure that every pilgrim leaves with a positive experience of Uttarakhand.
๐๐ป Healthcare & Technology: Temporary hospitals, ambulances and mobile medical teams will be set up across the fairgrounds. The use of IT and digital platforms will be maximized โ including mobile apps, helplines, and information centers to provide real-time updates to devotees.
High-Level Oversight
Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan has been directed to conduct a comprehensive review of Kumbh preparations every 15 days.
The meeting saw participation from several key leaders and officials, including MLAs Madan Kaushik, Premchand Agarwal, Adesh Chauhan, Renu Bisht, Ravi Bahadur, Anupama Rawat; DGP Deepak Seth; Principal Secretary RK Sudhanshu; Secretary Shailesh Bagoli; and senior officers from multiple departments, along with mela authorities and district administrations, some joining via virtual mode.
