Chief Secretary Reviews Preparations for Kumbh Mela 2027, Directs Issuance of GOs Within 3 Days

Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan chaired a high-level review meeting on Wednesday at the Secretariat to assess preparations for the Kumbh Mela 2027. Senior officials from various departments participated, and key aspects such as infrastructure, traffic management, sanitation, and cultural planning were discussed in detail.

Expressing displeasure over delays in issuing Government Orders (GOs) related to construction works, the Chief Secretary directed officials to resolve all objections and issue the pending GOs within the next three days to expedite project execution.

He instructed that the process of land acquisition and allocation for the Kumbh Mela be initiated immediately, with a clear deadline to complete land allotment by June 30. He also directed that this process be incorporated into the Kumbh Master Plan.

The Chief Secretary emphasized the need for an integrated traffic plan for both rail and road networks. He instructed the Mela Officer, IG Kumbh, and railway officials to hold a coordination meeting at the earliest.
He also directed that road infrastructure, including spurs and junctions on routes from Haridwar, Najibabad, and Manglaur, be upgraded and completed on priority. District administrations were asked to expand parking facilities and strengthen traffic arrangements in adjoining areas.

Officials were directed to prepare contingency traffic plans for emergencies. The Chief Secretary stressed the importance of ensuring adequate facilities such as parking, food, accommodation, and sanitation at entry points to the state and within designated parking zones.

Given the expected influx of millions of devotees from across India and abroad, he called for a dedicated sanitation plan for the entire Kumbh area. He also emphasized setting up sufficient tourist information centers to assist pilgrims and ensure smooth communication.

The Chief Secretary directed that cultural programs showcasing Uttarakhand’s rich traditions be organized during the Kumbh. Except on major bathing days, daily events featuring mythological, historical, and folk themes should be organized to provide a platform for local artists at national and international levels.

The meeting was attended by senior Officials including Nitesh Kumar Jha, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Pandey, Vinay Shankar Pandey, Sonika, and Yogendra Singh Rawat, along with other departmental and railway officials.
