Major Progress in SIR: Mapping Completed for 11.90 Lakh Voters, Notices Issued to 5.47 Lakh
Hearing completed in 3.95 lakh cases, while proceedings continue in 1.52 lakh cases

District Magistrate holds key meeting with political parties and Electoral Registration Officers on voter roll revision
Dehradun, August 21, 2026: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is progressing rapidly in Dehradun district. District Election Officer/District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan on Friday held a review meeting with representatives of recognised political parties and Electoral Registration Officers at the Rishiparna Auditorium. During the meeting, he shared the latest progress under the SIR exercise and sought the cooperation of political parties to ensure transparency, fairness and accuracy throughout the process.
The District Magistrate said that mapping of 1,190,805 voters has been completed in the district so far. Notices have been issued through Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to 547,617 voters where discrepancies were found in the details of voters listed in the 2003 electoral roll or where the required supporting details were not furnished. As of August 21, hearings have been completed in 395,772 cases, while proceedings in 152,170 cases are still underway.
39,025 Applications Received for Inclusion of Names
Dr. Chauhan informed that 39,025 applications have been received in Form-6 for inclusion of names in the electoral roll. Meanwhile, 10,235 claims and objections have been received through Form-7 seeking deletion of names from the electoral roll. In addition, 10,718 applications have been submitted through Form-8 for correction or modification of voter details.
He clarified that every objection received under Form-7 will be served individually to the concerned person by the respective BLO. A hearing camp will be organised only after seven days of serving the notice.
Booth-wise hearing camps will be organised across the district, where both the voter against whom an objection has been raised and the objector will be given a full opportunity to present their respective cases. This process, the District Magistrate said, will ensure that claims and objections are disposed of in a fair and transparent manner.
Verification of 96,187 Voters Registered in Both States
The District Election Officer informed that 96,187 voters in the district have been identified as having their names registered in the electoral rolls of both Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Such voters will be given an opportunity to voluntarily choose one state in which they wish to retain their voter registration. BLOs will visit these voters at their residences, explain the process and take further action based on their stated preference and the applicable electoral rules.
Political Parties Urged to Extend Cooperation
Dr. Ashish Chauhan appealed to representatives of recognised political parties to assist citizens who receive notices under the SIR exercise through their Booth Level Agents (BLAs) and facilitate their participation in the concerned booth-level hearing process.
He said that the objective is to ensure that all claims and objections are examined and resolved in a fair, effective and transparent manner.
The District Magistrate also made it clear that individuals submitting false declarations under Form-7 will face punitive action under the provisions of the Representation of the People Act.
The meeting was attended by Deputy District Election Officer/Chief Development Officer Abhinav Shah, Joint Magistrates Rahul Anand and Dr. Harshita, City Magistrate Rakesh Tiwari, SDM Aparna Dhaundiyal, Assistant District Election Officer Narendra Prasad Devli and representatives of various recognised political parties and Electoral Registration Officers.
Among those present were BJP representative Arvind Jain, BSP representative Satendra Singh, Congress representative Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Aam Aadmi Party representatives Ashok Semwal and Kamal Rana, along with office-bearers of other recognised political parties who participated virtually.
