UTTARAKHAND: Governor releases two books at Raj Bhawan Nainital

Nainital — Governor Lt General (Retd) Gurmit Singh has said that books are the soul of any institution, representing not merely a compilation of events but the energy of thoughts, values, and emotions. They not only guide the present but also serve as a beacon for future generations, he remarked while addressing a programme organized for the release of two books at Raj Bhawan, Nainital on Saturday.

The books released on the occasion were “Kumaon University – History and Development,” authored by Professor Atul Joshi, Head of the Department of Commerce at Kumaon University, and “Role of Women in Post-Independence Uttarakhand (with special reference to the Uttarakhand Movement),” written by Savitri Kaida Jantwal from the Department of History. The university’s Vice Chancellor, D.S. Rawat, was also present at the event.

The Governor said that the journey of Kumaon University is marked by both struggles and achievements, now academically preserved through these two books.

Commending Jantwal’s work, the Governor described her book as not just a chronicle of women’s awareness but also a narrative that captures how women were more than participants in the Uttarakhand movement — they were harbingers of change.

Professor Joshi, meanwhile, informed the Governor that his book details the background and circumstances that led to the establishment of Kumaon University.
