Uttarakhand Implements Uniform Civil Code: Free Marriage Registration Available Until 26 July 2025

Dehradun — The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) has officially come into force in Uttarakhand from 27 January 2025, marking a historic step toward legal uniformity in civil matters across communities. As part of its implementation, the registration of all marriages solemnized between 26 March 2010 and 26 January 2025 has been made mandatory.

To facilitate this transition and encourage compliance, the state government has waived the ₹250 registration fee for marriages falling within this timeframe, provided the registration is completed by 26 July 2025.

Additionally, individuals who have already registered their marriages under the Uttarakhand Compulsory Registration of Marriages Act, 2010, or under any personal law, are required to submit this information on the UCC portal. This step is purely for record-keeping purposes and does not involve any charges.

As per official data, over 1.90 lakh marriages have already been registered digitally, indicating a strong public response. Since the entire process is conducted online, citizens can complete their registration without visiting government offices.

The state government has urged all eligible couples to take advantage of the free registration window and contribute to the successful implementation of the UCC by registering before 26 July 2025.
