UTTARAKHAND NEWS: 16 SDG Achievers honoured by CM Dhami

DEHRADUN: In a significant event held at the Chief Minister’s residence, Mukhya Sevak Sadan on Monday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami honored 16 outstanding achievers for their contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The recipients included three individuals, nine institutions, and four industrial establishments who have made notable efforts in advancing sustainability and development in Uttarakhand.

The occasion also marked the launch of ‘Agragami 2.0’ and the ‘SDG Index Uttarakhand 2023-2024,’ showcasing the innovative work of previous SDG awardees. In the latest district-wise SDG rankings released by the Centre for Public Policy and Good Governance (CPPGG), Nainital secured the top spot, followed by Dehradun and Uttarkashi. The Chief Development Officers of these districts were also honored.

Chief Minister Dhami expressed his appreciation for the dedicated efforts of the awardees, recognizing them as the “real brand ambassadors” of the state’s development. He highlighted that over the past three years, 60 NGOs, individuals, and CSR contributors have been recognized for their exceptional work in various fields. The CM emphasized the government’s commitment to achieving the SDG targets by 2030 through a strategic “three-pillar and nine-point policy,” aiming to balance economic growth and ecological preservation.

Uttarakhand’s progress in the SDG India Index has been remarkable. Ranked ninth three years ago, the state now holds the top position nationwide. Significant strides have been made in areas like poverty alleviation, food security, sanitation, gender equality, clean energy, urban development, financial inclusion, and climate change adaptation. To strengthen these efforts, the government has introduced various initiatives, including the Chief Minister Women Entrepreneurship Promotion Scheme, Solar Energy Revolution, Smart City Mission, and the Chief Minister Urban Livelihood Scheme.

Acknowledging the state’s challenges in climate change, disaster management, sustainable agriculture, healthcare access, and water resource management, the Chief Minister called for collective efforts to maintain Uttarakhand’s leading position in sustainable development.

Highlighting the state’s increasing revenue, CM Dhami noted the rise in mining revenue from ₹400 crores to ₹1,200 crores in the past three years. This growth is a testament to the government’s efforts in policy simplification and effective revenue collection across sectors.

Prominent figures present at the event included MLA Savita Kapoor, Durgeshvar Lal, Chief Secretary Radha Raturi, UNDP Resident Representative Dr. Angela Lusigi, former Chief Secretary N. Ravishankar, Principal Secretary R. Meenakshi Sundaram, and ACEO of CPPGG Manoj Pant.
