Dehradun Schools Closed on July 9 as IMD Issues Orange Alert for Heavy Rain

Following an IMD Orange Alert for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, Dehradun District Administration has declared a holiday on July 9, 2026, for all schools from Classes 1–12 and Anganwadi Centres.

Dehradun, July 8, 2026:
In view of the adverse weather forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the National Disaster Alert Portal, the Dehradun district administration has declared a one-day holiday on July 9, 2026, for all schools from Classes 1 to 12 and all Anganwadi Centres across the district.

According to the latest weather advisory, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and intense spells of rain, is likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun on July 9, 2026. An Orange Alert has been issued for the district, indicating the possibility of severe weather conditions that could affect normal life.

Considering the safety and well-being of students, District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan has ordered the closure of all government, government-aided, private, and unaided schools from Classes 1 to 12, as well as all Anganwadi Centres, for one day.

The District Magistrate has also directed all concerned departments to remain on alert and ensure preparedness to deal with any weather-related emergency. Authorities have been instructed to closely monitor the evolving weather situation and take prompt action wherever required.

The district administration has appealed to parents and residents to strictly follow the advisories issued by the weather department and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall. People have also been advised to stay away from rivers, streams, waterlogged areas, and landslide-prone locations, particularly in hilly regions.

The administration stated that the weather situation is being continuously monitored, and further decisions will be taken if required. Citizens have been urged to rely only on official updates issued by the district administration and disaster management authorities and to avoid spreading or believing rumors.
