Uttarakhand Heavy Rain Alert: Orange and Yellow Alerts Issued for July 9–10

The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts of Uttarakhand on July 9 and 10, 2026. Orange and Yellow Alerts have been issued, while the administration has activated emergency response teams and advised people to avoid unnecessary travel.

Dehradun, July 8, 2026:
The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Dehradun, has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and intense spells of rain across several districts of Uttarakhand on July 9 and 10, 2026. In view of the forecast, the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) has issued precautionary guidelines to all District Magistrates, directing them to maintain a high level of preparedness and strengthen disaster management measures.

The state government has instructed district administrations to remain vigilant in vulnerable areas and ensure that all emergency response mechanisms are fully operational to deal with any rain-related incidents promptly.

Orange and Yellow Alerts for July 9

According to the IMD forecast, Orange Alert has been issued for Dehradun, Tehri Garhwal, Pauri Garhwal, Haridwar, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, and Champawat districts on July 9, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places.

A Yellow Alert has been issued for Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Almora, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh districts, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning at isolated locations.

Rainfall Activity to Continue on July 10

The weather is expected to remain active on July 10 as well. An Orange Alert has been issued for Pauri Garhwal, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Champawat, and Bageshwar districts.

Meanwhile, Yellow Alert has been issued for Dehradun, Tehri Garhwal, Haridwar, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Almora, and Pithoragarh, where moderate to heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning are likely.

Key Instructions Issued to District Administrations

The State Emergency Operations Centre has directed all District Magistrates to:

  • Maintain continuous surveillance in landslide-prone and vulnerable areas.
  • Keep SDRF, NDRF, police, fire services, and other rescue teams on high alert.
  • Closely monitor highways, roads, bridges, and other critical infrastructure.
  • Ensure immediate deployment of relief and rescue operations wherever required.
  • Strengthen coordination among disaster management authorities and all concerned departments, including police, health, public works, electricity, and revenue.
  • Keep district control rooms operational round the clock and report any emergency without delay.
  • Ensure wide dissemination of weather advisories through District Information Officers to keep the public informed.

Public Advised to Remain Cautious

Secretary, Disaster Management and Rehabilitation, Vinod Kumar Suman, has urged residents of Uttarakhand to strictly follow weather advisories issued by the IMD. He advised people to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in hilly and landslide-prone areas, over the next two days.

He also appealed to the public to stay away from rivers, streams, seasonal drains, and waterlogged areas, and to remain indoors or at safe locations during periods of intense rainfall and thunderstorms. People have also been advised to avoid open spaces, tall trees, and electric poles during lightning activity.

Vinod Kumar Suman urged citizens to rely only on official updates issued by the India Meteorological Department, the State Emergency Operations Centre, and district administrations. He cautioned people against believing or sharing unverified information circulating on social media.

He further directed all concerned departments to ensure the availability of adequate manpower, equipment, and emergency resources while maintaining 24×7 preparedness to effectively respond to any potential disaster situation during the forecast period.
