Ahead of Char Dham Yatra 2026, Uttarakhand government has ordered daily LPG supply reviews, ensuring no shortage and strict action on backlog and irregularities.
Dehradun: In view of the prevailing global situation and the upcoming Char Dham Yatra and peak tourism season, the state government has stepped up efforts to ensure uninterrupted supply of LPG across Uttarakhand. The Food and Civil Supplies Department will now conduct daily reviews of gas supply to maintain consistency and prevent shortages.
A high-level meeting was held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary (Food and Civil Supplies), L. Fanai, with oil marketing companies via video conferencing. During the meeting, the current status of LPG supply in the state was reviewed in detail, and key directives were issued.
The Principal Secretary informed that the Chief Secretary has clearly directed that there should be no shortage of domestic or commercial LPG supply in the state. Continuous monitoring and coordination with oil companies on a daily basis has been made mandatory.
Target: 60,000 Domestic and 6,000 Commercial Cylinders Daily
Officials were instructed to ensure adequate daily supply in line with rising demand. A target has been set to supply approximately 60,000 domestic cylinders and 6,000 commercial cylinders per day. Additional supplies have also been ordered to eliminate any backlog, along with mandatory daily reporting.
According to oil companies, on April 7, 2026, a total of 65,944 domestic cylinders and 3,864 commercial cylinders were supplied in the state:
- IOCL: 48,218 domestic, 2,340 commercial
- BPCL: 11,731 domestic, 698 commercial
- HPCL: 5,995 domestic, 826 commercial
Officials noted a steady improvement in supply compared to previous days.
Focus on Hill Areas
The Principal Secretary directed that LPG supply arrangements be further strengthened, especially in hilly regions, where network and distribution challenges must be addressed on priority. Oil companies were instructed to plan ahead according to increasing demand and ensure there are no bottlenecks at the dealer level.
Daily Review at 5 PM
It was decided that a daily review meeting at 5 PM will be conducted by Food Secretary, Anand Swaroop, with representatives from oil companies required to participate with complete data. This will ensure continuous monitoring and quick corrective action.
Swaroop stated that with the Prime Minister’s proposed visit to Dehradun on April 14, 2026, and the Char Dham Yatra commencing from April 19, 2026, special vigilance is being maintained to ensure seamless LPG supply across the state.
Crackdown on Irregularities: 6,280 Inspections and 423 Raids Conducted
The Food Secretary also highlighted that a statewide enforcement drive is being carried out to curb irregularities related to LPG and fuel distribution.
Key actions so far:
- 6,280 inspections conducted
- 423 raids carried out
- 19 FIRs registered
- 7 arrests made
A total of 1,118 LPG cylinders have been seized, including 946 domestic and 172 commercial cylinders. Additionally, one vehicle, three filling kits, and one weighing scale were also confiscated.
District-wise Action
- Dehradun: 288 cylinders and 139 kg gas seized
- Haridwar: 202 cylinders
- Nainital: 62 cylinders along with one pickup vehicle
- Udham Singh Nagar: 98 domestic and 5 commercial cylinders
Extensive action has also been taken in districts like Tehri, Rudraprayag, Champawat, and Bageshwar. A total penalty of ₹1,31,900 has been imposed so far.
Zero Tolerance Policy
The Secretary emphasized that the enforcement drive will continue with full intensity. All District Magistrates and concerned officials have been directed to ensure regular inspections, strict enforcement, and continuous monitoring under a zero-tolerance policy. Any negligence or laxity at any level will not be tolerated.
