CM Dhami Attacks Opposition Over Nari Shakti Vandan Act — “Those Obstructing Women’s Rights Will Be Answered by India’s Women”
Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami launched a sharp attack on opposition parties during a detailed press conference at the BJP state office, criticizing their stance on the Nari Shakti Vandan Act. He described the legislation not merely as a policy initiative, but as a historic opportunity to ensure rights, dignity, and equal participation for women in decision-making.
The Chief Minister stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Act had the potential to become a transformative step toward empowering women politically, socially, and economically. He emphasized that it would make India’s democracy more inclusive and balanced. However, he alleged that opposition parties such as the Indian National Congress, Samajwadi Party, All India Trinamool Congress, and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam attempted to derail the initiative for political reasons.
Calling the opposition’s approach “unfortunate,” Dhami said it reflects their mindset toward women’s empowerment. He alleged that whenever decisive steps are taken to strengthen women’s rights, opposition parties try to obstruct or weaken such efforts through misleading narratives and political calculations.
Referring specifically to the proposal for 33% reservation for women, the Chief Minister claimed that the opposition spread भ्रम (confusion) and used procedural arguments to delay progress. Addressing concerns related to delimitation, he clarified that no state or region would face any adverse impact on representation. He noted that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had already clarified this position in Parliament.
Dhami highlighted that today’s women are aware, capable, and assertive about their rights. He said they are excelling across sectors—including politics, administration, education, science, sports, and entrepreneurship—and deserve a rightful place in decision-making processes.
Expressing confidence in the power of “Matri Shakti,” the Chief Minister said that women will give a strong response to those who attempt to hinder their progress. “Women are no longer spectators; they are ready to actively shape the nation’s policies and direction,” he asserted.
He also underlined that both the central and state governments are implementing multiple schemes aimed at women’s empowerment, focusing on economic independence and greater social participation. The Nari Shakti Vandan Act, he added, is a significant step in this broader vision.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Dhami said that continuous efforts will be made to ensure the holistic development of women and to strengthen their role in nation-building.
The press conference was attended by MLA Savita Kapoor, senior women leaders of the party, representatives of various wings, and a large number of women and youth workers, along with other party officials.
