DEHRADUN: The Government of Uttarakhand has expressed deep grief over the demise of former Chief Minister and senior leader Major General (Retd.) Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri. In his honor, the state government has declared a three-day state mourning from May 19 to May 21. During this period, the National Flag will be flown at half-mast across the state, and no official cultural or entertainment programs will be held.
According to an official notification issued by the state government, the last rites of former Chief Minister Major General (Retd.) Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri will be performed on May 20 with full state and police honors. The government has also announced a public holiday across Uttarakhand on Wednesday, May 20, as a mark of respect.
Major General Khanduri, who served with distinction in the Indian Army before entering public life, was widely respected for his contributions to governance, development, and administrative reforms during his tenure as Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. He was known for his integrity, discipline, and commitment to public service, which earned him admiration across political and social circles.
Leaders from various political parties, social organizations, and administrative bodies have expressed their condolences, describing his passing as an irreparable loss to the state. Chief Minister and several other dignitaries have paid tribute to the departed leader, highlighting his significant role in shaping Uttarakhand’s development trajectory.
