In view of the upcoming monsoon season, District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan has directed concerned departments to take proactive measures for the effective management and timely resolution of waterlogging issues across the district. Chairing a review meeting at Rishiparna Auditorium, he emphasized that all departments must work in close coordination to ensure that residents do not face inconvenience during the monsoon and that both short-term and long-term solutions are implemented.

During the meeting, officials informed that a total of 61 locations across Dehradun, Rishikesh, Mussoorie, and Vikasnagar have been identified as waterlogging-prone areas during the monsoon season. These include sensitive locations such as the Rispana area, IT Park, ISBT, and several other vulnerable sites.

The District Magistrate directed all Sub-Divisional Magistrates, Municipal Corporations, Urban Local Bodies, and Nagar Panchayats to coordinate with concerned departments and prepare comprehensive action plans for each identified location. He stressed that while temporary arrangements should be made to provide immediate relief, departments must also develop sustainable and permanent solutions to prevent recurring waterlogging problems.

Assigning clear responsibilities to the Municipal Corporation, Public Works Department (PWD), National Highways Authority, and other concerned agencies, Dr. Chauhan instructed each department to prepare and implement time-bound action plans for locations falling under their jurisdiction.

He further directed the Municipal Corporation and all urban local bodies to undertake an extensive pre-monsoon cleaning drive of rivers, seasonal drains, and stormwater drainage systems. Departments have been asked to submit completion reports after the work is finished. He emphasized that drainage channels must remain free of obstructions to ensure smooth flow of rainwater and prevent water accumulation.

Special attention was given to the persistent waterlogging problem in the IT Park area. The District Magistrate instructed PWD officials to immediately commence the approved mitigation works. He informed that financial approval for these works has already been granted under the District Plan and that there should be no delay in execution.

The issue of waterlogging near the Rispana Bridge was also reviewed. Officials from the Municipal Corporation and PWD were directed to conduct a joint site inspection, submit a detailed report, and formulate an effective mitigation strategy.

Highlighting the importance of disaster preparedness, Dr. Chauhan said that the district administration is working with utmost seriousness and sensitivity to address monsoon-related challenges. He directed all departments to remain on high alert, strengthen emergency response mechanisms, and ensure the availability of adequate manpower and resources to tackle any emergency situation.

The District Magistrate also instructed officials to regularly monitor vulnerable locations, undertake advance preparedness measures in risk-prone areas, and prioritize the safety of lives and property. He stated that the district administration will maintain continuous monitoring of waterlogging and disaster-related incidents throughout the monsoon season and will take prompt action whenever required.

Officials from various departments also presented updates on existing challenges, waterlogging concerns, and proposed mitigation measures in their respective areas. The district administration has directed all departments to complete necessary preparedness measures before the onset of the monsoon to ensure public safety and convenience.
