Concern Over Sex Ratio in Sahaspur: DM Bansal
Dehradun, 4 May: District Magistrate Savin Bansal has emphasized that ultrasound technology in the district must be used strictly for medical treatment purposes. Speaking at the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Advisory Committee meeting held at Rishiparna Auditorium, Bansal warned that any center involved in illegal practices such as fetal sex determination will face stringent action.
Bansal made it clear that ultrasound centers found violating the PCPNDT Act or failing to renew their recognition on time will have their licenses cancelled immediately, without prior notice. “This technology must be used only in the public interest. The administration will follow a zero-tolerance policy against unethical practices,” he stated.
The District Magistrate issued directives to ensure that all ultrasound centers comply with essential regulations, including:
Installation of fire safety equipment
Possession of a valid Pollution Control Board certificate
Approval of the building layout
He cautioned that failure to adhere to these norms will attract strict punitive action.
To strengthen oversight, Bansal ordered the formation of area-wise inspection rosters. Each inspection team must include the concerned Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and a police officer to ensure accountability.
The meeting also revealed a concerning trend in the Sahaspur block, where the sex ratio was significantly lower compared to other blocks. In response, Bansal directed a comprehensive social audit to be conducted in the area. The audit team will include the Additional Chief Medical Officer (ACMO), a lady doctor, and representatives from social organizations.
The meeting was attended by several senior officials, including Chief Medical Officer Dr. Manoj Sharma, City SP Pramod Kumar, SDM Sadar Harigiri, JD Law GC Panchauli, DGC GP Raturi, Senior Pathologist Dr. JP Nautiyal, Dr. Nikhil Kumar, District Program Officer Jitendra Kumar, Dr. Mamta Bahuguna, and other committee members.
