National Lok Adalat to Be Held in Nainital on September 12, Cases to Be Settled Through Mutual Agreement
Check bounce, bank loan, family, civil and compoundable criminal cases among matters to be heard
Dehradun: In compliance with the directions of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), the High Court Legal Services Committee will organise a National Lok Adalat on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the High Court premises in Nainital.
The primary objective of the Lok Adalat is to facilitate the speedy and effective settlement of pending cases and disputes through mutual consent, compromise and conciliation, wherever such settlement is legally permissible.
A wide range of cases will be taken up during the National Lok Adalat, including compoundable criminal cases, cheque bounce cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, bank loan and financial disputes, and labour and employment-related matters.
The Lok Adalat will also hear matters relating to electricity and water bills, family and matrimonial disputes, land acquisition, compensation and other civil cases that can be resolved through mutual settlement. Other civil disputes eligible for settlement through compromise may also be placed before the Lok Adalat.
Relief from Lengthy Legal Proceedings
Settlement through the Lok Adalat can provide litigants relief from prolonged judicial proceedings, repeated court dates and the time and expenses associated with litigation. Since disputes are resolved with the consent of both parties, the process can also help preserve cordial relations between the parties.
Another significant benefit is that court fees paid in eligible cases are refundable as per applicable rules when a matter is settled through the Lok Adalat.
Virtual Participation Facility Available
The High Court Legal Services Committee has stated that parties or advocates who are unable to appear physically can also participate in the National Lok Adalat through virtual mode using the link available on the official website of the High Court.

The High Court Legal Services Committee has appealed to advocates and litigants seeking settlement of their cases through the upcoming National Lok Adalat to ensure that their matters are listed before the concerned bench on or before September 11, 2026. This will enable the necessary procedures and preparations to be completed in time.
The committee has urged litigants to make maximum use of the opportunity and seek speedy resolution of their pending disputes through mutual consent and settlement.
