President Murmu inaugurates Foot Over Bridge and Equestrian Zone at Rashtrapati Niketan, Dehradun
Rashtrapati Niketan emerges as a unique confluence of security, tradition, and Himalayan architecture

Dehradun: President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated two major visitor-centric facilities — a Foot Over Bridge and an Equestrian Zone — at Rashtrapati Niketan, Dehradun, on Sunday. The inauguration marks a new milestone in blending modern infrastructure with the traditional and architectural heritage of Uttarakhand.

The 105-feet-long Foot Over Bridge, constructed on Rajpur Road by the Uttarakhand Public Works Department (PWD) at a cost of ₹9 crore, connects Rashtrapati Niketan with the upcoming Rashtrapati Udyan (132-acre complex).
Built in the style of Himalayan vernacular architecture, the bridge symbolizes the harmony between functionality and heritage. With its universal access design, including ramps and handrails, it ensures safe and convenient passage for all pedestrians — particularly senior citizens and persons with disabilities. The bridge now provides a secure crossing over the busy Rajpur Road, enhancing visitor safety.

In addition, a 0.7-acre Equestrian Zone has been developed within the Rashtrapati Niketan campus, symbolizing the historic legacy of the President’s Bodyguard (PBG).
Developed by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), the facility includes a modern stable with a capacity for eight horses, along with a treatment bay, washing and feeding areas, and a visitor viewing gallery.
This new addition beautifully integrates the tradition of ceremonial discipline with modern facilities.
Both facilities will remain open to visitors from 9 AM to 5 PM (except Mondays).
Guided tours have been arranged to give visitors a complete “Rashtrapati Circuit” experience, showcasing the natural beauty, architectural grace, and cultural depth of Rashtrapati Niketan.
With the inauguration of these projects, Rashtrapati Niketan has evolved into a landmark representing not only enhanced security and infrastructure, but also Himalayan heritage, ecological sensitivity, and national pride.
