Heavy Rainfall Alert in Uttarakhand – Red and Orange Alerts Issued for Several Districts

Dehradun,31 August: Uttarakhand is expected to experience very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and stormy conditions over the next 24 hours. The Meteorological Department has issued a Red Alert for Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, and Haridwar districts, while an Orange Alert has been issued for several other districts.

From 12:51 PM on August 31, 2025, to 12:51 PM on September 1, 2025.

Districts and Key Locations Likely to be Affected

  • Champawat, Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital, Pauri, Tehri, and Udham Singh Nagar may witness heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning strikes, and in some places, extremely intense rainfall.

  • Specific areas such as Rudrapur, Haldwani, Kashipur, Kotdwar, Mussoorie, Khatima, Srinagar, Chakrata, Roorkee, Laksar, Bhagwanpur, Vikasnagar, Devprayag, and nearby regions are expected to be particularly affected.

Forecast for the Next Two Days

  • September 1, 2025:

    • Extremely heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, and Haridwar districts.

    • Heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning with intense spells are expected in other parts of the state.

  • September 2, 2025:

    • Heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning are expected at isolated places in Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, and Bageshwar districts.

Advisory from the Administration

In view of the severe weather forecast, the State Disaster Management Department has advised all district administrations to remain on high alert, closely monitor landslide-prone and sensitive regions, and be fully prepared for any emergency situation.

Citizens are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from rivers and streams, and refrain from taking shelter under tall trees or in open areas during lightning activity.
