UTTARAKHAND: CM Inaugurates Sanskrit Sambhashan Camp at Secretariat, Promotes Sanskrit as Public Language

Dehradun – Aiming to preserve, promote, and popularize Sanskrit—the second official language of Uttarakhand—as a public language, a Sanskrit Sambhashan Camp has been inaugurated at the Secretariat premises in Dehradun. The camp was formally launched by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday, following the Cabinet meeting. Cabinet ministers and Chief Secretary Radha Raturi were also present during the inauguration.

Chief Minister Dhami reaffirmed the state government’s strong commitment to the promotion of Sanskrit and Uttarakhand’s rich cultural heritage. He announced that 13 Sanskrit villages are being developed—one in each district of the state—to foster grassroots engagement with the language. He also highlighted that the Uttarakhand Sanskrit Academy is actively running various initiatives to bring the Vedas, philosophy, Upanishads, and other ancient Indian knowledge systems closer to the general public.

Emphasizing that Sanskrit promotion is a priority area for his administration, the Chief Minister said that continuous efforts are being made to integrate Sanskrit more deeply into public and administrative life.

Secretary of the Sanskrit Education Department, Deepak Kumar Gairola, informed that Sanskrit Sambhashan (spoken Sanskrit) classes will be held at the Secretariat from 29 May to 12 June. During this period, Secretariat officers and employees will receive hands-on training in conversational Sanskrit. The Secretariat Administration Department has issued the necessary guidelines to facilitate participation and ensure effective implementation of this initiative.
