The cold wave has intensified across Uttarakhand, leading to a surge in viral infections, flu, and seasonal illnesses. Doctors in Dehradun have advised parents and elderly citizens to take extra precautions, wear warm clothing, and include vitamin C–rich foods in their diet to boost immunity during the changing weather.

Dehradun, November 21: A sharp increase in cold wave conditions is being reported across the state, with both hill and plain regions experiencing a rapid drop in temperature. The growing chill in the mornings and evenings, coupled with cold winds, has led to a rise in cases of viral infections. In view of this, doctors in Dehradun have advised elderly citizens and young children to remain particularly cautious.
Medical experts noted that even minor negligence during sudden weather changes can lead to illnesses such as cold, cough, fever, and flu. As the cold wave intensifies, doctors are urging parents of young children and elderly individuals to avoid exposure to cold winds and refrain from consuming chilled food items.
Doctors pointed out that November and December are considered peak months for the spread of infections, as the body’s immunity tends to weaken during this period. Children and senior citizens are the most vulnerable and are often the first to catch seasonal infections. To stay fit and healthy, healthcare professionals are advising patients to include vitamin C–rich fruits like oranges, lemons, amla, and sweet lime in their diet.
Senior Pediatrician and Joint Director (Child Health), Dr. S. K. Jha, said that viral infections and flu cases are rising rapidly due to the changing weather and increasing cold. He emphasized that young children should be dressed in adequate warm clothing. School-going children should be sent with gloves and warm caps to protect them from the cold. He also advised avoiding cold water and suggested opting for fresh fruits—while recommending that children temporarily avoid bananas and guavas during the current weather transition.
Doctors have appealed to citizens not to ignore weather conditions. They stressed that timely precautions, warm clothing, and a nutritious diet are the most effective ways to stay healthy and prevent infections during the cold wave.
