Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall Likely Across Several Districts of Uttarakhand on July 1–2; SEOC Issues High Alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Dehradun, has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places across several districts of Uttarakhand on July 1 and 2, 2026. In view of the prevailing monsoon conditions and the possibility of weather-related incidents, the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) has directed all District Magistrates, District Emergency Operations Centres (DEOCs), and concerned departments to remain on high alert and ensure complete preparedness for any emergency.

The state administration has been instructed to closely monitor vulnerable and landslide-prone areas, keep disaster response teams fully prepared, and ensure a swift response to any untoward situation.

Orange Alert for July 1

According to the IMD, Dehradun and Bageshwar districts are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall (Orange Alert) on July 1.

Heavy rainfall is also expected in Tehri Garhwal, Pauri Garhwal, Nainital, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar, and Pithoragarh districts.

In the hill regions, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, intense spells of rain, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph are also likely.

Heavy to Very Heavy Rain Expected on July 2

The weather department has also issued an Orange Alert for July 2 in Dehradun, Tehri Garhwal, Pauri Garhwal, Nainital, and Bageshwar districts, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected.

Meanwhile, Haridwar, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, and Chamoli districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall, with thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds expected in the higher reaches of the state.

SEOC Directs All Districts to Maintain Maximum Preparedness

The State Emergency Operations Centre has instructed all District Magistrates to:

  • Maintain continuous monitoring of vulnerable, flood-prone, and landslide-sensitive locations.
  • Keep SDRF, NDRF, Police, Fire Services, Health Department, and other emergency response agencies on high alert.
  • Ensure that District and Tehsil Emergency Operation Centres function round the clock.
  • Initiate immediate rescue and relief operations in the event of any disaster.
  • Ensure prompt restoration of roads blocked due to landslides or debris through the Public Works Department, National Highways authorities, BRO, and other concerned agencies.
  • Keep all Disaster Management nodal officers and Incident Response System (IRS) officials fully operational, with uninterrupted communication through mobile phones and other communication systems.

Special Focus on Trekking Activities, Schools, and Urban Areas

The state government has also instructed authorities to regulate or temporarily restrict trekking and other adventure activities in mountainous regions depending on weather conditions.

Additionally, district administrations have been directed to:

  • Ensure the safety of students in educational institutions and take appropriate decisions based on local weather conditions.
  • Clean drains, culverts, and urban drainage systems to prevent waterlogging.
  • Maintain adequate stocks of essential food items, drinking water, medicines, and emergency medical services.
  • Ensure quick restoration of electricity and drinking water supply if disrupted.
  • Widely disseminate weather warnings and public safety advisories through District Information Offices and other communication channels.

Public Advised to Remain Vigilant

Secretary, Disaster Management and Rehabilitation, Vinod Kumar Suman, has appealed to residents, pilgrims, and tourists to strictly follow advisories issued by the India Meteorological Department and the district administration.

He urged people to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly in hilly and landslide-prone areas, stay away from rivers and seasonal streams during heavy rainfall, and remain in safe locations whenever severe weather conditions prevail.

He further advised citizens to immediately inform the local administration or the District Disaster Control Room in case of any emergency, landslide, flooding, or other weather-related incidents so that timely rescue and relief operations can be carried out effectively.
