Uttarakhand leads in reducing unemployment: PLFS Report

The Uttarakhand government has claimed that the state is making records in terms of providing employment. In support of its claim, the government has cited the recently released Period Labor Force Survey (PLFS) report. Citing the report, the government has also said that Uttarakhand has surpassed the national average in this matter.

CM Dhami has also reacted to the PLFS report. He claimed that it is an indication of the government’s commitments and efforts to create employment and reduce unemployment.

According to the Periodic Labor Force Survey (PLFS) report, unemployment has decreased in Uttarakhand in the last one year due to increase in employment opportunities. Uttarakhand has also beaten the national average.

As per the PLFS report, the unemployment rate  for all age groups has come down from 4.5 percent to 4.3 percent. Whereas in the age group of 15-29 years, it has come down from 14.2 to 9.8 percent.

The report also states that there has been a significant improvement in the worker population ratio in all age groups in the state in 2023-24 as compared to the year 2022-23. The worker population ratio in the age group of 15-29 years has increased from 27.5% to 44.2%. The government observes that it is an indicator off the fact that the youth in the state have got more employment opportunities.

According to the report, the worker population ratio in the age group of 15-59 years has increased from 57.2 percent to 61.2 percent. Whereas for the category of 15 years and above, it has increased from 53.5 percent to 58.1 percent. The participation of youth in the labour force has also increased in the year 2023-24 as compared to the year 2022-23. The labour force participation rate in the age group of 15-29 years has increased from 43.7 to 49 percent. Similarly, in the age group of 15-59, it has increased from 60.1 percent to 64.4 percent and in the category of 15 years and above, it has increased from 56 percent to 60.7 percent.

The report points out that Uttarakhand has also surpassed the national average in the worker population average. In the age group of 15-29 in Uttarakhand, this average has been 49 percent while the national average is 46.5 percent. Similarly, in the age group of 15-59, Uttarakhand’s average is 64.4 while the national average is 64.3 and in the category of 15 years and above, Uttarakhand’s average has been 60.7 while the national average has been 60.1.

Commenting on the PLFS report, CM Dhami said that it is our resolve to make Uttarakhand stand among the leading states of the country. With the blessings of the people, we are working day and night to fulfill this resolve. The state is creating more and more employment opportunities. He reminded that more than 16 thousand youth have been given permanent jobs in the government sector itself. This process has started in the private sector as well. The CM claimed that in the coming years, with most of the investment agreements coming to fruition, lakhs of youth will get employment. Uttarakhand will not only provide employment to the youth, but will also make them employers to others.
