DEHRADUN: Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan chaired a high-level meeting at the Secretariat on Tuesday to review and enhance the traffic management system in Kainchidham. Recognizing the recurring traffic congestion during weekends, Bardhan emphasized the urgent need for a comprehensive master plan for the area.
He instructed officials to begin the widening and upgradation of the main road passing through the Kainchidham market without delay, suggesting that necessary funding could be arranged under the “missing link” scheme. Highlighting the anticipated surge in devotees in the near future, Bardhan reiterated the importance of developing a robust infrastructure and traffic control strategy.
To ease local movement, the Chief Secretary called for the strengthening of alternative routes and the expansion of those that allow for widening. He also directed the identification and development of new parking areas and the initiation of a systematic shuttle service for visitors to the Dham.
In addition, Bardhan stressed the need for a detailed mobility plan to effectively manage traffic flow, particularly during weekends, and ensure its proper implementation. He advocated for the increased use of technology, including real-time information displays at parking zones and the use of CCTV cameras for route and crowd management. The option of implementing one-way traffic systems on select routes was also discussed.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Shailesh Bagoli, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Pandey, Kumaon Commissioner Deepak Rawat, IG Kumaon Riddhim Agarwal, Nainital District Magistrate Vandana Singh, and other senior officials.
