Announcement to Increase Pension for State Agitators and Their Dependents
State Agitators and Martyrs’ Families Honored on Uttarakhand’s Silver Jubilee

Dehradun: Marking the silver jubilee year of Uttarakhand’s establishment, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday paid heartfelt tributes to the martyrs of the Uttarakhand statehood movement at the Martyrs’ Sthal, Court Complex. The Chief Minister laid a wreath in remembrance of all those who sacrificed their lives for the creation of the state.

As part of the commemorative events, a grand State Movement Felicitation Ceremony was organized at Police Lines, Dehradun. During the ceremony, the Chief Minister honored state agitators and families of martyred activists. In a symbolic gesture of gratitude, flower petals were showered from a helicopter at the Martyrs’ Sthal, Court Complex, and Police Lines.

“Uttarakhand was built on sacrifice” — Chief Minister
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that Uttarakhand was not formed merely through a political decision, but through the sacrifice, struggle, and devotion of countless people of Devbhoomi. Recalling the tragic incidents of Khatima, Mussoorie, and Rampur Tiraha, he said these episodes remain eternal chapters in the state’s history.
He reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to honoring state agitators, noting that the pension and benefits provided to them are not just financial support but a symbol of the state’s gratitude.
Chief Minister’s Key Announcements
1. Infrastructure to be named after martyrs
Essential public facilities in the native areas of martyred state agitators will be named in their honor.
2. Increased pension for jailed/injured agitators
For agitators who spent at least seven days in jail or were injured during the Uttarakhand Statehood Movement, the pension has been increased from ₹6,000 to ₹7,000 per month.
3. Pension hike for other movement-related agitators
For agitators not covered under the above category but who were jailed or injured during the movement, the pension has been raised from ₹4,500 to ₹5,500 per month.
4. Support for disabled and bedridden agitators
Agitators who became disabled or bedridden due to the movement will now receive ₹20,000 to ₹30,000 per month, along with provision of medical attendants.
5. Pension hike for dependents of martyrs
Dependents of agitators martyred during the movement will now receive ₹5,500 per month, increased from ₹3,000.
6. Pending applications to get extension
A six-month extension has been granted to dispose of pending applications (received until 2021) in the District Magistrates’ offices relating to the identification of state agitators.
7. Beautification of martyr memorials
All martyr memorials across the state will be upgraded and beautified.
The Chief Minister urged people to light five lamps in their homes on Statehood Day as a tribute to the sacrificers of the state movement. He said the spirit of the movement continues to inspire Uttarakhand’s journey toward becoming the leading state in the country and called upon citizens to contribute to this vision.
The event was attended by Cabinet Ministers Ganesh Joshi and Subodh Uniyal, MP Mala Rajyalakshmi Shah, Rajya Sabha MPs Mahendra Bhatt and Naresh Bansal, MLAs Vinod Chamoli, Khajan Das, Umesh Sharma Kau, and Savita Kapoor, Vice President of the State Movement Honor Council Subhash Barthwal, Dehradun DM Savin Bansal, SSP Ajai Singh, and a large number of state movement activists.
