High-Level Security Review in Uttarakhand: Vigilance Tightened Across Border and Sensitive Zones

Home Secretary Shailesh Bagauli Reviews Statewide Security; Orders Intensified Vigilance, ANPR Cameras at Borders

Dehradun: Home Secretary Shailesh Bagauli chaired a high-level review meeting at the Secretariat on Friday to assess and strengthen the security arrangements across Uttarakhand. Senior police officials, all District Magistrates, and Superintendents of Police participated in the meeting through physical and virtual modes.

Bagauli directed all districts to enhance vigilance, especially in sensitive and border areas, and to maintain strict monitoring along the state’s boundaries. Emphasizing the importance of border security, he instructed that intensive checking drives be continued along the interstate and international borders. He stressed that special alertness must be exercised at the international border to prevent any suspicious movement.

To bolster technological surveillance, the Home Secretary ordered the installation of ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras at all border entry points and other strategic and sensitive locations. These systems, he said, will significantly aid in real-time tracking and monitoring of suspicious vehicles.

Highlighting Uttarakhand’s status as a major tourism and pilgrimage destination, Bagauli instructed district authorities to intensify security checks at popular tourist spots and pay special attention to crowd-prone religious sites. He further directed the implementation of a comprehensive CCTV network across urban centres and sensitive zones, ensuring that all feeds are monitored live for rapid response.

Reiterating that the safety of citizens and visitors is the government’s foremost priority, the Home Secretary asked all District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police to immediately apprise the headquarters and the state government if additional manpower, modern technology, or other resources are required to strengthen security infrastructure.

Bagauli also ordered that the surroundings of all government offices be brought under complete CCTV surveillance. He appealed to citizens to cooperate with authorities by following all prescribed security norms.

The meeting was attended by ADG Abhinav Kumar, ADG V. Murugesan, and district-level officers, who joined through a virtual platform.
