Dehradun, 06 December: As part of the World Disability Week, Rafel Home organised an awareness programme titled “Walk for Disability” to promote sensitivity and understanding towards persons with intellectual disabilities. The walk was jointly flagged off by District Magistrate Savin Bansal and Chief Development Officer Abhinav Shah from the Doon Library Chowk by releasing balloons. Over 300 intellectually disabled children participated in the event.

DM Savin Bansal and CDO Abhinav Shah walked alongside the children, encouraging them throughout the route. The DM interacted with participants, boosting their confidence and reiterating the district administration’s firm commitment to inclusive development and equal opportunities for all.

The awareness walk began at Doon Library Chowk, passing through Vikas Bhawan Chowk and Asle Hall, before concluding back at the Library Chowk. Throughout the route, participants raised slogans promoting disability rights, inclusive education, accessibility, and social sensitivity, urging the community to adopt a more inclusive outlook.

Speaking on the occasion, the District Magistrate emphasized that intellectually disabled persons are an inseparable part of society, and safeguarding their rights, ensuring the benefits of welfare schemes, and creating a barrier-free environment is among the administration’s top priorities. He appreciated the efforts of Rafel Home and encouraged the continuation of such meaningful initiatives.

The DM also noted that integrating persons with disabilities into the mainstream is a key focus of the government, and the organisations working in this field deserve recognition for their contributions.

Around 50 students from Brightland School participated with slogans to motivate the disabled participants. Officials from various departments, representatives of educational institutions, and members of social organisations were also present. The event concluded with a vote of thanks to all participants.

Those present included CDO Abhinav Shah, Rafel Home CEO Priya Lal, Principal Surabhi, Megha, and teachers and students of Brightland School.
