CM Dhami Demands Faculty Deployment and Accountability in Engineering Colleges

Why Are Classes Still Not Running Despite ₹15 Crore Spent on Infrastructure?: Dhami

Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has raised serious concerns over the non-operational status of classes in the ₹15-crore building constructed in Madhdura, Pithoragarh, for the Nanhi Pari Seemant Engineering Institute. The institute continues to function out of a Government Inter College (GIC) building, prompting the CM to question the rationale behind selecting the Madhdura site and the lack of academic activity in the newly constructed premises.

Chairing a high-level review meeting at the Secretariat on Tuesday, CM Dhami directed officials to ensure that engineering colleges in Uttarakhand are developed to national standards. He emphasized the importance of providing not only robust infrastructure but also qualified faculty, modern laboratories, hostels, boundary walls, and improved road connectivity.

Highlighting the urgent need for alignment with industry demands, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of equipping students with employable skills across various trades. He called for a comprehensive revamp of curricula, the inclusion of cutting-edge technology, and stronger campus placement efforts.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the current faculty recruitment status, CM Dhami issued strict orders to deploy teaching staff in accordance with prescribed norms. He also voiced concern over the low student enrollment figures and instructed authorities to investigate and address these issues promptly.

In response to allegations of irregularities in appointments and promotions at GB Pant Engineering College, Ghurdauri, the CM announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a detailed probe into the matter.

The meeting was attended by Technical Education Minister Subodh Uniyal, Infrastructure Monitoring Council Vice President Vishwas Dabur, Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, Principal Secretary R.K. Sudhanshu, Secretary Dr. Ranjit Sinha, Vice Chancellor of Madho Singh Bhandari Technical University Prof. Omkar Singh, Additional Secretary Swati Bhadoria, and directors of various engineering institutes.
