Dehradun: The sacred portals of Gurudwara Shri Hemkund Sahib, one of the most revered pilgrimage sites in Uttarakhand, will officially open for devotees on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
The decision was finalized after a meeting between Hemkund Sahib Management Trust Chairman Narendra Jeet Singh Bindra and Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, where preparations for the upcoming pilgrimage season were reviewed in detail. Considering the current weather conditions and reduced snowfall this year, both sides mutually agreed on the opening date.
Early Opening Due to Favorable Conditions
Officials noted that comparatively lower snowfall and improved climatic conditions have made it feasible to commence the pilgrimage earlier than usual. However, authorities also cautioned that weather in high-altitude regions remains unpredictable, especially in the context of changing climate patterns.
Facilities for Pilgrims
The Hemkund Sahib Trust, in coordination with the state government, manages the pilgrimage and provides free accommodation and meals (langar) at multiple points including Haridwar, Rishikesh, Srinagar, Joshimath, Govindghat, and Ghangaria.
Langar services are also available at Hemkund Sahib itself. However, due to its extreme altitude—over 15,000 feet—and limited infrastructure, overnight stay is not permitted at the shrine.
Government Assures Full Support
Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan assured full support from the Uttarakhand government to ensure a safe, smooth, and well-organized pilgrimage for all visitors. Authorities are working to strengthen arrangements for both the Hemkund Sahib Yatra and the broader Char Dham Yatra, which is scheduled to begin in April.

Hemkund Sahib holds immense spiritual importance, especially in Sikhism. It is believed to be the meditation site of the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh. Nestled amidst the majestic Himalayas, the shrine offers a serene and divine environment for meditation, reflection, and spiritual connection.
