Char Dham Yatra 2026: Transport Department in Final Stage of Preparations, Hi-Tech Check Posts to be Operational from April 16
Dehradun, April 9, 2026
The Transport Department has entered the final phase of preparations to ensure a safe, smooth, and well-managed Char Dham Yatra, scheduled to commence on April 19. To strengthen traffic management during the pilgrimage, hi-tech check posts will become fully operational across key locations from April 16.
Check posts are being set up at Asharodi, Kata Patthar, Kothal Gate, Herbertpur, Rishikesh, Satyanarayan, Tapovan, Bhadrakali, and Sonprayag. All these checkpoints have been equipped with Wi-Fi facilities. Authorities will conduct strict verification of Green Cards, Trip Cards, and vehicles to prevent any irregularities during the यात्रा.
Enforcement teams will also remain active at various points, ensuring thorough checks of vehicle fitness, essential documents, and safety compliance, thereby enhancing passenger safety.
Considering Rishikesh as the primary gateway to the Char Dham Yatra, a centralized control room is being established there. Transport officials and staff will be deployed round-the-clock to monitor operations. Pilgrims can seek assistance or register complaints via the toll-free number 0135-2743432 for quick resolution.
According to Regional Transport Officer Sandeep Saini, all preparations are in their final stage, and the check posts will be fully functional from April 16. He also highlighted that digital facilities, including Wi-Fi, are being prioritized at every checkpoint this year.
The Green Card issuance process, which began on March 30, has picked up pace, with over 1,500 cards already issued. In addition to Haridwar, facilities have been extended to Roorkee and Asharodi to make the process more convenient and efficient.
Check posts at Herbertpur Bus Stand and Rishikesh Transit Camp will play a crucial role in traffic management. Buses will be pre-screened at these points, helping to prevent congestion in sensitive stretches such as Kata Patthar, Bhadrakali, and Tapovan.
To support drivers traveling long distances, rest points are being developed at Asharodi and the Narsan border. These facilities will include beds, toilets, and other essential amenities, ensuring driver comfort and reducing fatigue-related risks.
To strengthen security, advanced ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras have been activated at key border locations. These cameras enable real-time monitoring of every passing vehicle directly from the headquarters.
Major locations including Bhadrakali, Tapovan, Kata Patthar, and Narsan border are now fully equipped with these surveillance systems, significantly enhancing monitoring and safety measures during the Yatra.
