‘Run for Yoga’ Organized on the Occasion of the 12th International Day of Yoga; CM Calls for a Healthy and Disciplined Lifestyle

Dehradun, June 19, 2026: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in the “Run for Yoga” event organized at Police Lines, Dehradun, on Friday to mark the 12th International Day of Yoga. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from youth, students, police personnel, social organizations, and members of various institutions, promoting awareness about the importance of yoga and healthy living.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that “Run for Yoga” is not merely a race but a powerful campaign to promote healthy living, positive thinking, and the practice of yoga among the masses. He emphasized that the initiative is an important step towards increasing public awareness about yoga and building a healthier, more conscious, and empowered society.

The Chief Minister stated that Devbhoomi Uttarakhand has been a land of yoga, spiritual practices, and the penance of sages for centuries. The state’s rich spiritual heritage and serene natural environment continue to inspire people towards health, balance, and a positive way of life. He described yoga as one of India’s most valuable cultural legacies and a scientific, practical discipline that creates harmony between the body, mind, and soul.

Highlighting India’s contribution to the global yoga movement, the Chief Minister said that yoga gained worldwide recognition due to the visionary leadership and efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Following India’s proposal at the United Nations General Assembly in 2014, June 21 was officially recognized as the International Day of Yoga. Today, millions of people in more than 190 countries practice yoga and benefit from its physical, mental, and emotional advantages.

Chief Minister Dhami noted that in an era marked by rising stress, depression, unhealthy lifestyles, and various health challenges, yoga has emerged as one of the most effective tools for achieving a healthy and balanced life. He said that yoga not only improves physical fitness but also enhances mental focus, self-confidence, and emotional well-being.

Calling upon the youth to make yoga and physical exercise an integral part of their daily routine, he said that healthy, energetic, disciplined, and value-driven young citizens form the foundation of a prosperous state and nation. He urged young people to embrace yoga and spread its message throughout society.

The Chief Minister further stated that the State Government is continuously working to establish Uttarakhand as a global hub for yoga, Ayurveda, wellness, and naturopathy. Through the state’s new Yoga Policy, efforts are being made to promote yoga and meditation centres, support yoga trainers, and create new employment and entrepreneurship opportunities in the wellness sector. These initiatives, he said, will not only strengthen the healthcare and wellness ecosystem but also generate sustainable livelihood opportunities for the youth.

Appealing to citizens to adopt yoga as a daily practice, maintain a healthy and disciplined lifestyle, contribute towards building a drug-free society, and spread the message of yoga to every household, the Chief Minister expressed confidence that the youth of Uttarakhand would play a leading role in transforming yoga into a mass movement. He said their participation would significantly contribute to building a healthy, prosperous, self-reliant, and developed Uttarakhand.

The event generated tremendous enthusiasm among participants and served as an effective platform to promote fitness, wellness, and awareness ahead of the International Day of Yoga.

Among those present on the occasion were Cabinet Minister Madan Kaushik, MLA Vinod Chamoli, Mayor of Dehradun Saurabh Thapliyal, AYUSH Secretary Ranjana Rajguru, Dehradun District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan, Senior Superintendent of Police Parmendra Dobal, along with senior officials and distinguished citizens.
