District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan conducted a comprehensive inspection of the Nari Niketan, Juvenile Observation Home (Bal Sudhar Grih) and Girls’ Observation Home at Kedarpuram on Thursday to review the functioning of these residential institutions. During the visit, he assessed the facilities being provided to women, girls and juveniles, with a special focus on security, healthcare, education, sanitation, nutrition and rehabilitation services. He directed the concerned officials to further strengthen institutional arrangements and ensure a safe, supportive and dignified environment for all residents.
Interacting directly with the residents, the District Magistrate enquired about their daily routine, education, health, food, living conditions and other essential requirements. He instructed officials to create a nurturing atmosphere where every resident feels safe, respected and supported, enabling their overall physical, emotional and social well-being.
Focus on Education and Personality Development
During his visit to the Juvenile Observation Home, Dr. Chauhan interacted with the juveniles to understand their educational background, interests and aspirations. He directed the District Probation Officer to introduce a Basic Learning Programme aimed at strengthening the educational foundation, language skills and intellectual development of the children.
He also instructed officials to prepare a comprehensive individual profile for every juvenile, covering educational history, family background, psychological assessment, health status, interests and rehabilitation plans. The initiative will help develop personalised care and rehabilitation strategies based on each child’s specific needs.
Regular Counselling and Health Monitoring
The District Magistrate directed that all juveniles and girls residing in the institutions undergo regular psychological counselling and periodic health check-ups. He stressed the importance of professional counselling sessions to support their emotional and mental well-being and facilitate their successful reintegration into society.
He further instructed officials to organise regular sports, yoga, cultural activities, life-skills training and personality development programmes to encourage holistic growth and confidence among the residents.
Strengthening Security at Nari Niketan and Girls’ Home
While inspecting the Nari Niketan and Girls’ Observation Home, Dr. Chauhan reviewed the existing security arrangements, access control mechanisms and surveillance systems. He directed officials to reinforce security measures and ensure that there is no scope for negligence in safeguarding the residents.
He also instructed that regular medical examinations be conducted for all women and girls residing in the institutions and that their concerns and needs be addressed promptly with sensitivity and compassion.
Safe, Hygienic and Dignified Living Environment a Top Priority
The District Magistrate also inspected sanitation, food quality, drinking water facilities, residential rooms, toilets and other basic amenities. He directed the concerned departments to maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, safety and discipline across all institutions.
He reiterated that providing a secure, dignified and positive environment for women and children under institutional care remains one of the district administration’s highest priorities, adding that any negligence in this regard would not be tolerated.
Current Strength of Residents
At present, the institutions accommodate:
- Nari Niketan: 160 women residents
- Juvenile Observation Home (Bal Sudhar Grih): 7 juveniles
- Girls’ Observation Home: 12 girls
