Dehradun.
The Dehradun district administration has stepped up preparations for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll, with District Magistrate and District Election Officer Dr. Ashish Chauhan issuing strict directions to ensure that the revision process is completed within the prescribed timeline in a transparent, accurate, and error-free manner.
Chairing a review meeting on Friday with Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), Dr. Chauhan emphasized that the Special Intensive Revision of voter lists is a crucial democratic exercise and must be carried out with utmost seriousness and accountability.
He directed officials to ensure comprehensive and transparent voter mapping so that all eligible citizens are included in the electoral roll. At the same time, the names of deceased, shifted, or permanently absent voters should be removed only after proper verification, ensuring that no eligible voter is deprived of their right to vote.
The District Election Officer also instructed all officials to thoroughly study the Election Commission’s guidelines and remain fully prepared to resolve any issues arising during the revision process.
Comprehensive Training for BLOs and Supervisors
Dr. Chauhan directed that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and supervisors involved in the revision process be provided extensive training to enable them to perform their responsibilities effectively. He stressed that all queries and concerns of field staff should be addressed during the training sessions themselves.
To strengthen the verification process, he also instructed officials to utilize the services of local revenue personnel, including patwaris, wherever required, to minimize the possibility of errors in the voter list.
Appointment of BLA-2 at Every Booth to Be Ensured
Highlighting the important role played by Booth Level Agents (BLA-2) nominated by political parties, the District Magistrate directed all EROs to hold meetings with representatives of political parties and ensure the appointment of BLA-2s at every polling station.
He stated that active participation of BLA-2s would contribute significantly to maintaining transparency, accuracy, and credibility in the revision of electoral rolls.
Physical Verification of Polling Stations Ordered
To improve polling station infrastructure and voter convenience, all EROs have been directed to conduct physical inspections of polling booths within their respective jurisdictions and ensure that necessary facilities and arrangements are in place.
The District Magistrate further instructed nodal officers associated with the revision exercise to complete all logistical and administrative arrangements in a time-bound manner. He also directed officials to prepare tender-related requirements for election management activities well in advance to avoid delays.
Final Electoral Roll to Be Published on September 15
Providing details of the revision schedule, Additional District Election Officer Abhinav Shah informed the meeting that printing of enumeration forms and training of personnel will be completed by June 7, in accordance with Election Commission guidelines.
From June 8 to July 7, 2026, BLOs will conduct door-to-door visits for distribution and collection of enumeration forms. During the same period, the final rationalization and determination of polling stations, including newly proposed booths, will also be completed.
The first draft of the electoral roll will be published on July 14. Claims and objections will be accepted from July 14 to August 13, while their disposal will be completed by September 11. The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on September 15, 2026.
