Municipal Corporation, Urban Local Bodies, Cantonment Boards and District Panchayat Directed to Prepare Short-Term and Long-Term Waste Management Plans
Dehradun: In an effort to strengthen sanitation and solid waste management across the district, District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan chaired a virtual review meeting on Thursday with officials of the Municipal Corporation, Urban Local Bodies, Cantonment Boards, and the District Panchayat from the NIC Auditorium at the Collectorate. During the meeting, he directed all concerned departments to prepare comprehensive short-term and long-term action plans to ensure effective waste collection, transportation, and disposal.
The District Magistrate emphasized that maintaining a clean and healthy environment requires coordinated efforts from all departments and stakeholders. He instructed officials not to limit their work to office-based reviews but to conduct regular field inspections to assess ground realities and develop practical and sustainable solutions for waste management.
Dr. Chauhan stated that waste collection and disposal activities across the district would now be monitored at the micro level. Responsibilities of concerned officials will be clearly defined, and regular reviews will be conducted to ensure accountability and effective implementation. He further directed all urban local bodies to identify locations where garbage is repeatedly dumped and formulate permanent solutions through well-planned interventions.
During the review, the District Magistrate instructed the Municipal Corporation, Municipal Councils, Nagar Panchayats, District Panchayat, and Cantonment Boards to further strengthen their systems for waste collection, transportation, and scientific disposal. He also stressed the need for prompt redressal of sanitation-related complaints and improvement in overall public service delivery.
Highlighting the importance of public participation, Dr. Chauhan appealed to residents of the district to actively contribute to cleanliness and civic management initiatives. He urged citizens to share photographs, locations, and details of issues related to street lights, traffic signals, signboards, roads, drains, garbage accumulation, and other public amenities by tagging the official Facebook and Instagram pages of DIPR Dehradun. He assured that complaints and information received through these platforms would be forwarded to the concerned departments for timely and effective action.
The District Magistrate noted that the administration’s objective is not only to address complaints but also to establish systems that prevent the recurrence of such issues. He said that technology, citizen participation, and administrative accountability would be integrated to create a cleaner, more efficient, and responsive civic environment.
Additional District Magistrate (Finance and Revenue) K.K. Mishra, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Doiwala) Aparna Dhondiyal, and other officials were present at the NIC Auditorium, while representatives of municipal bodies, cantonment boards, and other concerned departments joined the meeting through virtual mode.
