DM Savin Bansal’s Sensitive Initiative for Differently-Abled Persons, Elderly and Destitute Women & Children
Free EV Vehicle Services Launched for DDRC and Nari Niketan in Dehradun
A major step towards safe, dignified and eco-friendly transportation for vulnerable sections of society
“Making life easier for differently-abled persons, elderly citizens and destitute people is the administration’s responsibility,” says DM Savin Bansal
Dehradun, May 23, 2026:
In a significant and compassionate initiative aimed at ensuring convenience, safety and dignity for differently-abled persons, senior citizens, destitute women and children, the Dehradun district administration has launched dedicated free EV vehicle services for the District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC) and the Government Nari Niketan at Kedarpuram.
District Magistrate Savin Bansal formally flagged off separate electric vehicles for both institutions on Saturday, marking the official commencement of the service.
The initiative has been launched to provide safe, accessible and dignified transportation facilities to people in need, especially those requiring regular medical care, rehabilitation support and institutional assistance.
Speaking on the occasion, District Magistrate Savin Bansal said that ensuring better facilities and easing the daily lives of differently-abled and elderly citizens is one of the administration’s top priorities. He noted that in September 2025, the state’s first District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC) was established at Gandhi Shatabdi District Hospital to provide integrated services for differently-abled persons under one roof.
The DDRC currently offers physiotherapy, psychological counselling, disability certification, artificial limb distribution and several other rehabilitation-related services.
The DM further stated that differently-abled persons and elderly citizens associated with the DDRC frequently need to travel to the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities (NIEPVD), Social Welfare Department offices and various hospitals for treatment and official work. Due to the lack of dedicated transportation, they often faced significant difficulties. The newly introduced free EV vehicle service is expected to greatly ease their mobility challenges and ensure hassle-free transportation.
Similarly, more than 180 women, girls and children currently reside at the Government Nari Niketan, Balika Niketan, Bal Grih and Shishu Sadan located in Kedarpuram. These include destitute, abandoned, exploited and specially cared-for women and children who frequently require transportation for medical treatment and other essential needs.
With the introduction of the dedicated EV vehicle service, residents of these institutions will now have access to safer, smoother and more dignified transportation facilities.
District Magistrate Savin Bansal emphasized that the initiative is not only about providing transport facilities but also reflects the administration’s commitment towards social sensitivity and environmental protection. The use of electric vehicles will contribute to pollution control and promote sustainable and eco-friendly transportation.
He added that the administration remains committed to extending every possible support to vulnerable and marginalized sections of society so they can live with dignity and access essential services without inconvenience.
Chief Development Officer Abhinav Shah, District Social Welfare Officer Deepankar Ghildiyal, District Probation Officer Meena Bisht, District Programme Officer Jitendra Kumar and other officials were also present on the occasion.
